In honour of St. Patrick's Day this month, let's spotlight our GREEN fruits and vegetables!

•Green coloured vegetables and fruits are rich in:
–Chlorophyl
–Vitamin K
–Potassium

•We want to aim for at least one green veggie/fruit per day because they are beneficial for our eyes, bones, immune system and digestion.
Here are a few fun ways to bring some green to our plates:

–Add spinach to your smoothie
–Add snap peas, broccoli, celery or peppers to your afternoon snack
–Spread avocado over your toast
–Include kale in your pasta sauce
–Add sliced zucchini to your pizza
–Make half your plate asparagus with dinner

Having a few go-to herbs and spices in your pantry is an easy and heart healthy way to add flavour to your usual dishes.

•Herbs: The leafy part of a plant. When using dried herbs, use 1/3 of the amount compared to fresh herbs. For example, basil pairs well in tomato-based recipes, such as pasta and salads. Oregano pairs well with beef, lamb, and in soups.

•Spices: Comes from the bark, buds, fruit, roots, seeds or stems of plants. Consider adding cinnamon to your squash or sweet potatoes. You can even try a dash of cayenne or curry powder in your roasted veggies.

Did you know that February 10th was International Legumes Day?

This day aims to raise public awareness of the many benefits of legumes, which are economical, ecological, and very nutritious foods.
Legumes are plant-based proteins that contain dietary fibers and not much fat, which makes them very interesting for the prevention of heart diseases.

Furthermore, legumes are extremely versatile so they can be prepared in different ways. You don’t know how to cook them?

Here are 5 interesting ways to prepare legumes:
•Roast them in the oven. As a result, they will become an excellent crispy protein snack for when you feel hungry between your meals.
•Prepare cookies, cakes, or bars with them. Legumes have a very neutral taste, so without knowing it, you will add all its nutrients to your favorite baked goods.
•Add them to salads. This is a great way to add proteins to your meal, so it is more complete.
•Put them in sandwiches. You can mash them and season them like you would with tuna, chicken, or egg sandwich filling.
•Blend them to create the base of a dip. It is common to eat chickpea in hummus, but other legumes can also be prepared this way.
