Day 3️⃣0️⃣ of 3️⃣0️⃣ days of Yoga!

BOOM 💥

Here's what I learned in 30 days:

1. It's not just for skinny, bendy people. It's for everyone.

2. It's as much about your inner space as it is your outer space. It's meditative and challenging. It's provoking and calming.

3. It's better with friends, especially if they serve you coffee afterward. ☕️

4. It shows you things about yourself you don't want to see or know, but you're better off for it.

5. It's a SLOW process with barely visible results. The work shows up most in your heart and mind. And, if you're lucky, you notice you're a smidge more bendy than you were a month ago.

6. It requires/demands consistency.

So, where do I go from here? Well, my plan is to continue with in-person yoga classes twice a week. This is the most I'm ready to commit to long-term because there's more/other things I'd like to explore.

Day 2️⃣9️⃣ of 30 days of Yoga.

In class today, we tried some new moves (new to me), and even though they were tricky, we did them at a pace that was manageable. There was one I could NOT do and one I REALLY struggled with but pulled off (barely). I was going to name them here, but apparently there are variations of yoga poses that have partial, convoluted, or no official name. It's all very confusing, so for this post, they shall remain nameless.

I nailed the pose in this picture though!
Call it whatever you want.

PS: My yoga teacher has confirmed the poses were crescent moon pose (impossible for me once she asked us to raise the back knee) and half moon variation (knee on the floor).

Day 2️⃣7️⃣ of 30 days of Yoga.

I did a Google search today for the term "yoga for the disenchanted" (because I feel uninspired) and it took me right to a blog from which I read this awesome blurb...

"Yoga tends to dwell in the land of gray. It is more neither/nor than either/or. It is a land of “yes, and…” It is a land of ambiguity and shifting terrain. In short, it is a land based more on the complexities of real life than overly simplified (but convenient) categories of first or last, right or wrong, good or bad.

I was looking up what kind of equipment is recommended for a long-term yoga practice. One article suggests a yoga mat, blocks, a bolster, straps, and a mat bag or sling.

Day 2️⃣4️⃣ of 30 days of Yoga.

Not feeling excited about Yoga the last couple of days. I liked it better when I thought it was a calming, meditative, stretching practice instead of a "workout." I hate working out. Which I guess is obvious.

But, it's only day 24, so I can't give up. Here's some de-stressing Yoga poses I found online. I've actually done all of these except fire log pose (my legs don't stack that way).

Day 2️⃣2️⃣ of 30 days of Yoga.

I wanted to roll up my mat and huck it in the garbage today. During our 60-minute class, the instructor upped the ante with things like moon salutations (they sound beautiful but feel sh*tty), plank pose, and yoga squats. I felt overwhelmed and incapable. I toggled between self-pity and defiance for most of the class.

As she pointed out on the ride home, my frustration IS yoga. It's noticing the defiance and self-pity. It's deciding what to do with those feelings. It's doing nothing (Savasana).

Yoga is LIFE played out on the mat.

Day 1️⃣7️⃣ of 30 days of Yoga.

OMG I just discovered this video (and channel) and I love it!! This girl's body weight and shape is almost identical to mine so these hacks are BANG ON for me. I'm so excited!

I've experienced the same reservations she expresses about certain poses and also felt the fear that my knees will snap under my weight. But how will I become more flexible without stretching and bending? These tricks make it possible. 👌

I have just 13 more days to prove to myself that yoga is something I will stick with and ONLY THEN will I permit myself to buy some yoga blocks. Until then I'm grateful for friends that let me borrow theirs. ❤

Today was yoga class for 60 min. We did hip openers. I enjoyed it. (for real)

Yoga is growing on me. I like that my progress is measurable in tangible ways. Like the amount of time I can hold me leg in the air or how deeply I can sink my hips to the mat.

But my favorite part of yoga is Shavasana (co**se pose). Haha!

Day 1️⃣4️⃣ of 30 days of Yoga.

I literally put "fun yoga" in a Google search and found this 11-minute video. I like how free-spirited these girls are LOL. All the videos I've seen so far have perfect bodies moving perfectly. What I like about this video is they don't take themselves too seriously.

The only element that's missing here is the bliss of breath work. What I love about yoga is how every movement corresponds with the breath. It's not always easy, but it's more calibrating than gasping for air on an uphill hike.

That said, we all need a little fun, even with yoga! Enjoy!

Everything hurts. Trying on clothes SUCKS.
