Truth makes us WHOLE 🧡

When we look in the mirror... when we see our reflection in the river... when we sit in circle with our relations... we see ourselves clearly.

Tâpwêwin ᑖᐯᐏᐣ - Truth - is the sacred teaching that calls us home to ourselves. To speak our truth. To live our truth. To BE our truth.

In our sharing circles, we create safe spaces where truth flows like water - healing, cleansing, connecting us all 🧡

Truth isn't always easy, but it's ALWAYS healing. When we honor our authentic selves, we honor our ancestors, our children, our community.

What truth is ready to emerge in your life today? How does speaking your truth bring you closer to wholeness?

Share your reflections below - this circle is SAFE for your story 🧡

Gentle steps on Mother Earth at dawn 🧡

Walking with Tawîmîsiwin - ᑕᐋᐧᒦᒋᓯᐏᐣ

Humility teaches us to tread softly, love deeply, and honor our connection to all living things. When we place our feet upon the earth with reverence, we remember we are part of something sacred and vast.

How do you practice gentle-heartedness today? 🧡

This is Nîhcinitohtâwin - ᓃᐦᒋᓂᑐᐦᑖᐏᐣ - our Sacred Teaching of WISDOM!

Wisdom isn't just knowledge... it's the sacred gift passed from Elder to youth, from generation to generation. It's learning to see with the eyes of the owl - watching, listening, understanding the deeper truths 🧡

Our Elders carry medicine in their words, healing in their teachings. When we sit with them, we don't just learn... we CONNECT to who we are!

What wisdom has an Elder shared with YOU? Drop a teaching, a story, or just a beautiful memory in the comments 🧡

Let's celebrate the knowledge keepers who guide us on the good path!

Open hands under sunlight... 🧡

This is Sacred Teaching #4: HONESTY - Kwayaskâtisiwin (ᑲᐧᔭᐢᑳᑎᓯᐏᐣ)

When we speak our truth with gentle hearts, we create space for healing. Honesty doesn't mean being harsh - it means being REAL with love and respect.

Trust grows when we show up authentically. Relationships heal when we're brave enough to be vulnerable.

How has honesty helped heal a relationship in your life? What would change if we all embraced radical transparency with compassion?

Every step forward is an act of courage 🧡

Walking our path takes REAL bravery - speaking our truth, making healthy choices, standing up for what matters. That's Sôhkeyitamowin (ᓱᐦᑫᔨᑕᒧᐃᐧᐣ) - the sacred teaching of Courage.

Our ancestors walked with courage. Our communities show courage daily. YOU show courage in ways that matter 🧡

What small act of bravery will you honour today? Share and let's celebrate the courage in our circles!

Every voice MATTERS! 🧡

In our sacred circles, we practice Manâtisiwin - ᒫᓇᑎᓯᐏᐣ - RESPECT that lifts up every story, every tradition, every heart.

When we gather in ceremony, we honor the wisdom of our Elders AND the dreams of our youth. THAT is respect in action!

How do you show respect in your community? Share your story below! 🧡

LOVE is the heartbeat of everything we do 🧡

Sâkihitowin - ᓴᑭᐦᐃᑐᐃᐧᐣ - connects us to family, community, and ourselves. It's the first Sacred Teaching because without love, there is no healing, no growth, no wahkohtowin.

When we embrace our Elders, hold our children close, and honor the land that holds us... that's Sâkihitowin in action 🧡

What does LOVE look like in your community? Share your story below - we'd love to hear how love shows up in your healing journey!

Every voice matters. Every story deserves space. 🧡

In our Cree teachings, we say "Miyo-wîcêhtowin" - living in harmony, building good relations with ALL people. This means creating space for different opinions, experiences, and perspectives without judgment.

As individuals, we can practice deep listening and kindness. As organizations, we can build programs and spaces where everyone feels heard and valued. That's what we do at Wahkohtowin Wellness - honoring the medicine wheel's teaching that diversity strengthens our circle.

When we embrace our differences with open hearts, we create the healing our communities need for the next seven generations. 🧡

What does making space for others look like in YOUR life? How do you practice Miyo-wîcêhtowin in your daily interactions?

When we nurture ALL parts of a person - their heart, mind, body, AND spirit - everything changes 🧡

The medicine wheel teaches us that true wellness flows when we care for the WHOLE person and the WHOLE community.

At Wahkohtowin Wellness, our four sacred quadrants work together:
🔸 Kinship (Miyo-wîcêhtowin) - strengthening family bonds
🔸 Outreach (Mânokêw) - meeting you where you are
🔸 Mental Health (Miyowâyâwin) - healing hearts and minds
🔸 Language & Culture (Kayâs-isîhcikêwin) - reconnecting to roots

Miyopimâtisowin kîsikâw - Good life for all 🧡

When we heal together, we heal for the next seven generations!

Why must we choose ONE part of who we are? 🧡

The Canadian system forces Indigenous people—especially those with mixed Métis and First Nations heritage—to choose a single identity, band, or nation for recognition and benefits.

This colonial approach doesn't reflect our understanding of kinship and belonging. Our identities aren't checkboxes on government forms!

The Indian Act, with its rigid definitions, continues to fragment our communities and disconnect us from our full heritage. When forced to select just one band or nation, we're asked to silence parts of ourselves that are equally valid and real.

At Wahkohtowin Wellness, we believe identity flows through relationships, not bureaucracy. The word "Wahkohtowin" itself speaks to kinship systems that have sustained us for generations—systems that recognise the complexity of belonging.

BELONGING SHOULD NOT BE LIMITED by colonial categories! 🧡

We're curious: How has this "choose one" approach affected your connection to community? Have you experienced the pain of being "boxed in"?

As we walk toward healing, let's imagine: What would a system honouring the fullness of Indigenous identity look like? How might communities define their own citizenship beyond government constraints?

We invite your stories, your wisdom, your truth. Because real change begins with our voices.

Dance isn't just movement—it's our medicine. 🧡

When we dance, we PRAY. When we dance, we HEAL. When we dance, we CONNECT with ancestors who danced these same steps for generations.

Every footfall carries meaning. Every jingle and sway tells our story of resilience, joy, and coming together as community.

"To dance is to pray, and to pray is to heal" 🧡

What does movement mean in YOUR healing journey?

Stay with us this week as we celebrate the beautiful diversity of Indigenous dance traditions and their power to transform!

When the Grass Dancers enter the circle, they bring an ancient blessing with every step. 🧡

Before a single ceremony could begin, before any gathering could take place, these dancers were ESSENTIAL to community wellness. Their purpose? To bend and flatten the tall prairie grasses, literally preparing the ground for everyone who would follow.

Watch closely and you'll see the dancers' regalia—with its flowing yarn and ribbons—mimic the movement of grass swaying in the wind. Each careful step represents harmony with the land, a physical prayer connecting the dancers to Mother Earth.

The origins of this beautiful tradition trace back to Plains Nations—the Omaha, Ponca, and Dakota-Sioux peoples—who understood that preparing sacred space was itself a sacred act.

What moves me DEEPLY about Grass Dancing is how it embodies the very essence of community care. Before we can heal together, someone must prepare the way. Before we can gather in ceremony, the ground must be blessed and made ready.

At Wahkohtowin Wellness, we see ourselves in this tradition—working to create safe, prepared spaces where Indigenous healing can flourish. Just as Grass Dancers honour the land with each step, we honour the path of wellness with each program we offer.

Next time you witness these dancers, notice how they don't just perform—they TRANSFORM the space, making it ready for all that follows. 🧡
