Staying closed until January 8th...
Recent updates from the BC government have allowed low impact activity facilities to re open under new Covid guidelines.
I felt the pull to re-open our doors, to see you all again, to restart the machinery that is this business.
As I sat that initial excitement and reactive reaction faded, and it became clear that the decision to re-open at this time was not what I wanted to do.
Why?
New restrictions impact the financial viability of our operation. A simple real truth. It might not be groovy to talk about but it is real. The yoga industry already (in my opinion) asks people to under value the teachings that practitioners spend their lives learning.
Instructors have already adjusted their lives to accommodate the closure and I don’t want to make them come back this close to the holidays.
Instructors are burnt out. We have held a lot of space for our communities. I am burnt out. Holding space for something that also affects yourself inhibits our ability to process it fully ourselves.
This season is one of drawing inward, reflecting, processing, learning from our successes and failures - so the coming year can be abundant instead of redundant. I strive to move with the flow of nature.
We are being asked to stay home, not visit others, or congregate in groups. This one is true to my heart. The practice exists beyond the walls of the studio, and we have many resources both online, remembering lessons learned in class, and nature herself to find grounding, relaxation, and healthy movement.
You see the truth is - you don’t need Tandava, me or the other teachers. YOU are so intelligent, capable, resilient - tap into the greatness that you are.
The Kripalu lineage we teach at the studio is grounded in the truth that you’re own inner guidance and energy is your greatest teacher.
And when Tandava opens again come in because you are grateful to gather and practice together as a community. To share our discoveries with each other. Studios are so important for our communities and the development of our practice, but they aren’t meant to be a lifeline. We are a community first and a commodity second.
So instead of being guided by “attraction” - wanting to be open because it brings me so much joy and purpose to be with you all. And instead of being guided by “aversion” - I don’t want my business to fail so I must open. I am following my heart - in this position of being a leader of sorts there is an unseen pressure to always be able to keep going, to always be okay. I want you all to know that is is okay to set boundaries. It’s okay to need space. It’s okay to follow your hearts guidance. Humans need time and space to integrate, regroup, the ground. Our shavasana at the end of every practice is this lesson.
I deserve a break. My fellow teachers deserve a break. You deserve a break. We all deserve rest. You do not have to earn that!
See you on FB lives Thursday’s at 9am
You are so loved my dear Tandava Family, yoga family, world family. I am excited to gather in gratitude and joy with each of you again.
Humbly and with love,
