Anxiety. Don't become it. Observe it.

My heart feels heavy today as I hold the many lives changed across our province.
Behind every headline are real people and real grief.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, numb, or deeply sad, please know your reactions make sense.

Collective trauma affects us all.

As a counsellor, I want to remind you that support is available — you don’t have to carry this alone.

Supports are available:
**BC Mental Health Support Line: 310-6789
**Kids Help Phone: Text “CONNECT” to 686868

Please be gentle with yourself today. Rest, limit news if needed, and hold your loved ones close. đź’”

Anxiety is a very human experience, and many of us find ourselves doing whatever we can to feel steadier when it shows up. Over time, some ways of coping can support us, while others may bring short-term relief but add to our distress in the long run.

This document gently explores healthy and less helpful ways of coping with anxiety, with the intention of increasing awareness rather than blame. If you recognize yourself here, you’re not broken—you’re doing your best, and there are kinder, more supportive options available.

As the holiday season arrives, I want to acknowledge that this time of year can bring up many emotions. In a world that feels heavy and uncertain, it’s okay if you’re feeling tired or overwhelmed.

Please be gentle with yourself. Healing isn’t linear, and simply showing up matters. Rest when you need to, set boundaries, and allow moments of comfort or connection in ways that feel safe for you.

Whatever this season brings—joy, grief, or complexity—there is no “right” way to move through it. Wishing you moments of peace and self-compassion.

As we say goodbye to Halloween night and prepare for the festivities of the holiday season, I thought it would be important to remind ourselves of "control."

Much of my work with clients is to help them to better understand what emotions are and the role they play in our lives. Emotions are our instincts and each one is trying to guide us.

In the last few weeks, I have noticed a common theme of clients presenting with anger 'issues.' My suggestion to them has been to reframe the story they are telling themselves. Anger is not an "issue." Anger is a gift to be grateful for.
