If you found us through ClassPass, we’re really glad you did 💛

It’s been such a meaningful way to grow our community and welcome so many new faces into the studio.

As MoveWell has grown, we’ve been thinking carefully about what best supports your progress in a small boutique setting — and it keeps coming back to consistency, support, and a more connected studio experience.

Because of that, we’ll be moving away from ClassPass. Our final participation date will be June 10th.

We’re so grateful for everyone who found us there, and we’re already working on what’s next.

In STOTT PILATESÂŽ Advanced Matwork, we build on those skills so you can expand your repertoire and teach advanced movement with more clarity and confidence.

How much weight are you actually using on the reformer?

This setup:
⚪ 1 white
🔵 1 blue
🔴 3 red

At full carriage extension (~43 inches), that can build to:

3 reds → ~179–184 lbs

1 blue → ~29–31 lbs

1 white → ~15–17 lbs

👉 Total: ~223–232 lbs of resistance

But here’s what matters MOST:

This isn’t a fixed weight.

The resistance increases as the springs lengthen,
which means your body has to control the load
through the entire range of motion.

So you’re not just pushing weight—
you’re managing strength, control, and stability at the same time.

Mermaid isn’t just a side stretch.👇

In STOTT Pilates, it’s a lateral flexion exercise:
focused on how you move, not how far you go.

The priority is:

STABLE pelvis

SUPPORTED, steady shoulder

CONTROL through the spine

You’re using your side body (obliques) and deep stabilizers
to create the movement and control the return.

Across these variations:

Reformer
Gives you feedback to help find alignment

Chair
Less support → more stability required
(this is where the hip often lifts)

Mat + ball
Same movement, but more awareness required
→ easiest to try at home

If you try this yourself, focus on:

KEEPING both hips grounded
KEEPING the supporting shoulder steady (not sinking into it)
MOVING side-to-side, not forward
RETURNING to upright with control

Why it matters:
This kind of work supports posture and movement quality.

BUILDING STRENGTH and CONTROL through the side body.

Most common mistake?
Turning it into a stretch and losing the control.

Understanding movement starts with understanding the body.

We are hosting the STOTT Pilates virtual Functional Anatomy course this June. This course is a key part of the STOTT Pilates education pathway- designed to build a strong understanding of how the body moves and functions. It’s ideal for those preparing to work as a Pilates instructor or movement specialist.

Through a mix of lectures, demonstrations, and interactive learning, you will explore the foundations of anatomy and how it directly applies to movement.
