Happy to be featured alongside the wonderful Corinne Wade Kare Physiotherapy in this discussion with Wesla Wong. Pelvic health Physiotherapy is making a bigger mark each year here in Kelowna! Mommy Berries provides a social media platform to inform women about common ‘female’ symptoms to open the conversation which is the first step in getting help!
You can find me at Wave Physiotherapy.

you are in a position to help change the future of women's health in Canada and put our country on the forefront of proactive health. The current state of pelvic floor health is sorely lacking and women deserve better. They deserve information, knowledge, access to care and it should be paid for by the government...like they do in France.

Yoga is a great way to get back to exercise postpartum. It focuses on your breath which is great for calming your nervous system and activating your core AND it is a no impact activity!! MOGA has just created a series of online mom and baby yoga videos that you can do at home. Check out this free trial video.

Many of my clients are postpartum moms right now and are asking:
“When can I do planks?”
“What exercise is best for my ab separation?”
“What week can I start running”

My answer is always the same:
“There is no recipe. It depends”

None are pleased with that answer 🙄🙄🙄

Truth is, I do not have a magic wand, there are no secret exercises and there is no postpartum clock that strikes 12:00 one day and means you are ready for the exercise you want.

The quick answer is that you need to learn to make sure your body has a good anchor so that any exercise you do has a solid base. You need your deep core which has likely forgot its role after pregnancy.
See a pelvic floor physio to guide you through this process and read this blog post by Julie Wiebe! She is a pioneer of women’s health.
In this post she explains that the answer it’s not about specific exercises, but rather your strategy.
Once you have a successful strategy... you can do whatever you want!!!

Is this a good exercise for diastasis (or insert X diagnosis: prolapse, incontinence, hip pain, low back pain, etc. )? Can you give me 3 exercises to avoid?

Have you heard of Mommy Berries? Amy Rauscher and Melissa Dessaulles (pelvic health physio) have teamed up to give you pregnancy and postpartum info. Check us out on facebook Mommy Berries or instagram .
We have also created an online program you have been asking for! We now have a 6 week program that explains the changes your body has been through during pregnancy and how to gently connect with your core and pelvic floor as you get back to your favourite activity.
We are on a mission to advocate for more postpartum care for new moms so pretty please share this for us!

Cycling... there is more to it than just getting on a bike. I see many clients who cycle with symptoms like vaginal pain, sit bone pain, tailbone pain, numbness in their perineum or going down the leg. If something doesn’t quite feel right, have someone do a bike fit for you so that your bike is tailored to your body!
AND see a pelvic floor physio if something is “wrong” down there.
