Make your first ride a safe one with the experienced professionals at KDSC! Our 33 hour course is the most in-depth and widely recognized rider safety training program you will find, and our school and Instructors are all licenced by ICBC, the Canada Safety Council, and the BC Safety Council. Motorcycles, helmets, riding jackets, and gloves are all included during training. Eight hours of classroo
m Theory focuses on urban riding tactics, defensive riding strategies, hazard detection, decision making skills, traffic safety issues, group riding, choosing a bike and riding gear, and many other important issues that will give students the knowledge they will need to stay safer on the roads. It is not necessary to have a Class 6/8 motorcycle learner’s permit to participate in Theory. Gearing Up is Canada’s national motorcycle training program. We start at the beginning by going over basic controls. Get the feel of balance and steering with the bike’s engine off, then move on to the powered slow speed skills and techniques you’ll need to control the bike and be a safer rider: clutch/throttle control, cornering, counter steering, u-turns, slaloms, right & left turns, emergency braking & swerving, hazard avoidance, and more. After 12 hours of parking lot training, we will administer the Motorcycle Skills Assessment on the final day of Gearing Up. Two days of in-traffic training will introduce you to a variety of progressively challenging real-life traffic situations in the 13 hour Traffic Skills course. You’ll experience residential riding, highways, downtown areas, one way streets, hills, railway crossings, and more. This is where all of your new-found knowledge comes together and where you gain the confidence and skills needed for the road. After you complete the Learn to Ride course, you’ll be ready to take your ICBC Road Test. We can book it for you, and even provide a bike, if you like. Over 98% of our students pass the Road Test on their first attempt.
