Questions about BC provincially-funded IVF treatment?

The Province of British Columbia announced yesterday that beginning April 2025, BC will launch a new publicly funded in-vitro fertilization program, funding both treatment and medication for one cycle.
⁠
Olive Fertility currently has no details about the program. Please do not contact our clinic for information as we plan to provide updates on our website and social media when we learn more.⁠

Olive Fertility Centre celebrates this announcement for people of BC seeking assisted reproduction to grow their family. If you are struggling to conceive or have concerns about your fertility, we encourage you to book a full fertility assessment as soon as possible. It is particularly important to see a fertility specialist if you are age 37 or older, or have a known condition impacting your fertility.⁠

Currently, MSP covers fertility consultations and most assessments for residents of BC, as well as some treatment with a referral from a family physician or virtual clinic.

Secondary Infertility: What You Need to Know to Grow Your Family

If you are having trouble conceiving baby number two or three, you are not alone. Many women are shocked to find that they can’t get pregnant with a subsequent baby when they had no problem conceiving their first child.

Secondary infertility is defined as the inability to get pregnant following any prior pregnancy or the birth of one or more children. This condition is much more common than most people think. According to the Center for Disease Control it affects approximately 12% of women trying to conceive a second child.

**Kelowna Patients**
We hope you are all doing well during this intense time in our area.

As our city continues to fight the wild fires around us we need to modify our patient care plan to protect patients and staff:

-All virtual appointments and in person appointments for IVF will continue this week.

-If you live within Kelowna, West Kelowna or Lake Country, you may continue with your in person appointments or procedures. Please let us know if you prefer to reschedule.

-If you live outside of these areas above, we will contact you to rebook your in-person appointments given the local state of Emergency and travel restrictions.

Our clinic is open to take phone calls.

Thank you for your patience as we aim to protect all patients and staff.

**Attention Kelowna Patients**

To all of our patients, due to the current state of emergency in Kelowna, we are currently canceling all in-person consultations and IUI cycles for the safety of patients and staff. We are doing our best to respond to patients on a triage basis.

Any other treatment cycles will be reviewed for each patient/couple by the clinic nurse and physician. Please do not come to the clinic unless you have been contacted directly by a nurse to do so.

If you are currently on a cycle and have an urgent question please call the emergency cell.

If you have a non-urgent matter please leave a voicemail on the nurses' line and we will respond within three business days.

If you have a medical emergency please call 911 or head to your nearest emergency room.

The safety of our patients and staff are of utmost importance and we will assess and inform our patients of any new changes as we assess our situation on a day-to-day basis.

Amanda and Sarah’s journey to parenthood

"Our journey began when we were travelling to our favourite place, Bulgaria. This country has a special place in our hearts. We were visiting friends when I showed them the ring I was going to propose to Amanda with.

Fast forward a few years, we were once again in Bulgaria when we knew we wanted to start a family and settle down in our hometown of Kelowna, Canada. Luckily Kelowna has one of the best fertility clinics in the province, so we knew we were in good hands."
