At the very ❤️ of Pilates is the Matwork

It's unbelievable to me that so few studios teach it anymore. When I became a Certified Pilates Teacher, a long time ago, Matwork was the first thing that needed to be learned and mastered before any of the fancy equipment.

That's because the Matwork is the Foundation to everything Pilates!

It's on the Mat that students really learn about their body, their breath, their posture, their core, plus their restrictions and how to tap into safe progress with mindful movement.

It's personal. It's intimate. It's just you and the mat. You will get stronger, more flexible, and more confident on the mat in 6 weeks than with Pilates equipment. Guaranteed.

But apparently, it's not sexy enough for the 30-somethings since none of them teach it!

And that is why I teach.

Because Pilates isn't about sexy outfits and sleek equipment. It's about moving better and building a deeper understanding of your body so you can reclaim a healthy spine, a stronger core, happy joints & better functioning body.

Back Pain and poor functioning hips go hand in hand. I help all of my students develop healthier hips that feel open, stable and strong. This is a big part of what we work on inside my Pilates for Back Pain virtual programs (PS next 4 week series starts Tuesday Feb. 4 - you should be there!

But don't just take my word for it....here's what one of my students wrote recently...

"After last Fridays class my hip flexors were tired and sore from some of the great hip openers we did. I went for a gentle walk, took an anti inflammatory and that night and the next morning I had much more movement and range in my hips!! You have always told me that I need to do more of the exercises that challenge my hips and of course being human I avoid them if it feels uncomfortable. So now I am trying to incorporate them in my morning stretching. ( #4 stretch, clam shells with the foot turned up, and then down, etc) Thank you for challenging me. It works!!! Lynda"

PS Lynda is in her 70's and has arthritis and scoliosis and comes to all my Zoom classes - she is an amazing woman and understands that movement is medicine.
