There is something about camp coffee that’s so incredibly cozy it’s got to be one of my favourite things ever, period. Whether it’s pour over or French press, made right over the fire or on the little stove, it’s one of the first things I want to do when I get to a spot. and I have awesome campsite flow. It’s a dance of unpacking, building the fire, throwing out a few casts and easing into the natural vibe of the location. Each time we go out we explore a little further and the gems we’ve found lately have been marked in our memories as spots to come back to whenever we want to get away without going too far. It makes for awesome Sunday dinners in the woods on short notice. The mosquitos suck but a worthwhile trade for the views and peace of mind we find every time. 🦟 🎣 🔥 ☕️ 🐕

He’s a natural, and I fell even deeper in love watching my son learn to cast. He’s a busy body boy and for once, he was still and it was as serene as the lake we were on.

I’ve got a gorgeous bright white 100% cotton duvet cover that’s about to get a color update. The last time I did a plant dye was on a table cloth and I used avocado pits. I made homemade soy milk and soaked the fabric in it, then dried it, then soaked and dried and soaked and dried and then I dyed! This time I’m going to use purple cabbage I think 🤗 if you’re at home and you want to update a natural fibre anything, give it a wash in some food scraps instead of shopping online for new stuff 💕

The greatest creation I have ever birthed is this human. I wanted a person I could shape and mould and have an affect on for 20 years. I wanted a creative project that would always require attending. I didn’t realize I was inviting in my first life long partnership. I didn’t realize he would shape and mould me. I didn’t understand that he would be my co-creator. You don’t know these things before you have children. We think we get to be the parents, and that parents are the authority. That we as the parents are the teachers. That we as the parent should be listened to. That we are in charge. How wrong I was. I am no more his authority than he is mine. He dictates the deciding factor behind every decision I make. He can bring me to my knees with emotion I didn’t know I had before. He can elate me to my highest highs. He is a god in my world. He has humbled me repeatedly. He represents everything I find worth fighting for in this life, and here in this picture, holding his gathering basket, he embodies all I have wanted for this planet and all children. I cannot wait to continue to co-create our sustainable life together. I am so proud to be raising this guy who carries my medicines and my heart in his hands.

One of my first wildcraft favourites of the year is Balsam Poplar. Collecting these resin filled buds is the first sweet nectar of spring. I say sweet nectar because you can immediately recognize this plant by its smell. That whiff of nostalgia from these little guys getting stuck to your shoes as a kid, that’s how I remind people that they already know this plant. You can gather these throughout winter, but early spring is just the most enjoyable for me as I’m a strongly ritualistic person and this marks the start of my foraging season. I infuse this into an organic base oil for the next 6 weeks and eventually I’ll have some more salve for sale. It’s what’s saving my hands from all this landscaping I’m doing while the world is in social quarantine. Thankfully gathering wild plants and making our own medicine is something we still have plenty of access to in Canada.

Naturally antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial and deeply hydrating - the Evergreen Resin Salve is back in the Etsy shop. This is the one product I make where I use a double boiler and apply heat. I do this because I’m working with a resin and I need it to melt in order to separate the natural oils from the waxes. I do a very low temperature pot of water with a stainless steel bowl on top and I place my chunks and blobs of evergreen saps into the bowl and cover them with organic olive oil. Over the next few hours of constant stirring over low heat I will see the evergreen resin separate into oils and waxes. I will then strain the whole mix through a coffee filter. I re-ad the filtered oil to a clean stainless steel bowl over a low temp pot of water and slowly add beeswax until it reaches a consistency for making a salve. Pour into desired containers and voila! You can make it yourself, or you can buy it from me ;)
