Some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned at 33 have come from my work as a naturopathic doctor but also from simply being a woman moving through this stage of life myself. 💛

I’m constantly reminded that my patients teach me just as much as I teach them. Their experiences, questions, and stories show me what truly matters when it comes to health, hormones, and feeling supported.

Not every bleed is a true period.
Here’s why ⬇️

When your body releases an egg (ovulation), it also produces progesterone. If pregnancy doesn’t happen, both estrogen and progesterone drop, and that’s what triggers your period.

But in an anovulatory cycle (when no egg is released), progesterone isn’t made. Without it, the uterine lining can still build up from estrogen and eventually shed — giving the appearance of a “period.”

The difference?
👉 A true period = after ovulation + progesterone shift
👉 Anovulatory bleeding = no ovulation, no progesterone, just hormone fluctuations

Why this matters:
• Anovulation is common in perimenopause
• It can cause irregular, heavy, or unpredictable bleeding
• Without ovulation, you miss out on progesterone’s benefits (mood, sleep, bone health, brain health)

Your cycle is more than just the days you bleed. Understanding whether or not you’re ovulating is key for hormone balance, fertility, and overall health.

✨ If you’re unsure whether you’re ovulating, there are ways we can test and track this together.

Okay, admittedly I’m not a Swiftie (of course I still love her music though), but I couldn’t resist hopping on this trend 💍

Here are some of the things I love when it comes to cycles + hormones ❤️

Here’s the thing: once we sat down together, took the time to go through her cycle in detail, and actually mapped it out — everything started to make sense.

Her cycle wasn’t too short at all.
She was bleeding for 7 days, then bleeding again 20–22 days later.
That’s a total cycle length of 27–29 days — absolutely normal.

The issue wasn’t her cycle length, it was simply that no one had ever taught her how to track her cycle properly.
And no one had taken the time to really listen.

We did still address her heavy bleeding (because that part wasn’t normal), but she walked away feeling empowered and informed - not confused and dismissed.

✨ If you’ve ever felt unsure about your cycle or like something is off and you’re not being heard — know that it is possible to get answers.

Cycle education is powerful.
And it starts with knowing how to track it properly.
