If you’re evaluating a Canadian spa line with real selling advantages, this walkthrough shows why Pacific Spas land — and keep — happy customers. Dave (30+ years in hot tub retail) breaks down what matters on the sales floor: rock-solid construction, quiet motors, efficient insulation, easy serviceability, and the Pacific Wave™ rhythmic therapy system that people actually use.

Highlights for retailers

Built to last: 2" fiberglass bottom + insulated sandwich base, tubular aluminum frame (no wood), and aluminum-skinned cabinet.

Serviceable & efficient: Perimeter insulation that fits tight — recycles motor heat back to water and stays fully serviceable for life.

Quieter demos: Purpose-built pumps run cooler (~140°F vs typical ~185°F) with sealed bearings for longevity and near-silent operation.

Plumbing done right: White PVC, glued & clamped — not flimsy clear hose.

Jets customers love: Screw-in jets that don’t pop out; strong leg & foot jets (reflexology sells).

Comfort sells: Multiple cool-off ledges, proper seat heights (from “under-tall” to “over-tall”), and safe four-tier entry steps.

The Pacific Wave™ advantage: Rhythmic massage with 20 power levels + adjustable pulse — more relaxing, less fatigue, longer sessions.

Smart control: Intuitive, child-lockable topside; long-range app control with factory OTA updates.

What’s Really Going On in the Hot Tub Industry Right Now? (From Someone Who’s Been in It 10+ Years)

Let’s face it — things feel… weird right now. If you’re in the hot tub industry, whether as a retailer, tech, or supplier, you’re probably noticing it too. Fewer walk-ins, more hesitation, longer decision cycles, and dealers wondering, “Is this just the season, or is something bigger happening?”

I worked for a local hot tub dealership for over a decade — six of those years focused solely on marketing — and during that time, we rode through every cycle: booming seasons, off-seasons, economic dips, you name it. I also created this site, CanadianHotTubRetailers.com, originally as a resource hub and credibility builder while transitioning from one dealership to the next. It’s quietly been ticking along — 2,500 views last month without a single ad — which tells me there’s still a steady stream of people looking for hot tubs. They’re just not buying the same way.

So what’s going on?

💸 A Tougher Economic Climate
According to recent reports, Canada’s economy is still technically growing — up 0.5% in Q1 2025 — but it’s complicated. Much of that growth came from a temporary export surge, not consumer confidence. Between rising interest rates, inflation fatigue, and ongoing uncertainty with U.S. tariffs, many Canadians are sitting tight on big purchases like hot tubs. And that affects everyone in the chain — from manufacturers down to delivery crews.

🌤️ Seasonality Still Matters (But the Off-Season Isn’t a Write-Off)
It’s also the time of year when sales typically slow. In most parts of Canada, summer means camping, travel, and using the lake instead of installing a spa. But this off-season doesn’t have to be idle. When I was managing ad spend, I used the quieter months to test creative, refresh messaging, and prep for the fall. I knew that when momentum returned, we’d be ready to capture it — and that strategy helped keep our average ad cost per spa sold around $300.

📈 But There’s Still Demand — It’s Just Changed
Here’s the good news: interest in wellness, self-care, and “backyard retreats” is still growing. Consumers are just doing a lot more research before committing. They’re comparing brands, watching YouTube videos, scanning for reviews, and looking for signals of trustworthiness.

🔧 If You’re a Retailer: What You Can Do Right Now
This site — Canadian Hot Tub Retailers — is about helping you stand out in a cluttered, competitive, and sometimes confusing marketplace. You don’t need gimmicks. You need credibility, clarity, and connection.

Here are two things you can do this off-season to strengthen your position:

Educate, don’t just sell.
Start answering the questions your customers are already Googling. “What size hot tub do I need?” “How much electricity does it use?” “Is salt water worth it?” I’ve seen firsthand how transparency builds trust — and trust drives sales.

Get visible online.
75% of buyers start online, but many retailers still treat their websites like digital brochures. Refresh your content. Update your hours. Add real photos. Share customer testimonials — video is best. These small changes create real lift.

Let’s keep the industry strong — and help each other weather the changes.

Planning the Ultimate Romantic Hot Tub Date Night

Creating a romantic evening in the comfort of your backyard hot tub can be an unforgettable experience. With Valentine's Day approaching, or for any special occasion, a hot tub date night is a perfect way to connect and relax with your significant other. Here's how you can plan an evening that's both enchanting and intimate.

1. Ensure a Pristine Hot Tub Setting

Begin by making sure your hot tub is in perfect condition. Check and balance the chemicals a few days in advance, and consider draining and cleaning the tub if it hasn’t been done recently. A clean, sparkling hot tub is essential for setting a romantic mood.

2. Craft a Personalized Invitation

Elevate the occasion by sending a formal invitation. Go beyond a simple text; create a beautifully designed invite and pair it with a thoughtful gift like new swimwear or luxurious towels. This gesture adds a touch of elegance and anticipation to your date night.

3. Curate a Selection of Delectable Bites and Beverages

Select food and drinks that are both indulgent and convenient for a hot tub setting. Opt for light finger foods like cheese platters, fruit, and gourmet crackers. For beverages, champagne or a specialty cocktail can add a celebratory touch. Remember to serve them in shatterproof glasses for safety.

4. Set the Ambiance with Lighting and Music

Ambiance is key for a romantic evening. Use soft, outdoor-friendly lighting like lanterns or string lights to create a warm and inviting glow. Curate a playlist of music that both you and your partner enjoy, ensuring it’s relaxing and adds to the intimate atmosphere.

5. Include Aromatic Touches

Enhance the sensory experience with subtle aromas. Consider adding hot tub-safe scents or placing aromatic candles (safely) around the tub. Scents like lavender or jasmine can be particularly soothing and romantic.

6. Plan for Post-Soak Relaxation

After your time in the hot tub, have a cozy setup ready to continue the evening. Soft robes, warm towels, and a comfortable seating area nearby can extend the romantic experience. You might even consider watching a movie under the stars or simply stargazing together.

7. Personal Touches

Incorporate elements that are meaningful to your relationship. This could be anything from a particular type of flower to a playlist of songs that are special to both of you. Personalization makes the evening uniquely yours.

Planning a hot tub date night takes a bit of preparation, but the result is a deeply personal and romantic experience. It's an opportunity to create lasting memories with your loved one in a relaxed and intimate setting.

Your Complete Guide to Hot Tub Shopping: 6 Mistakes to Avoid for the Ideal Spa Experience

Investing in a hot tub is a decision that promises relaxation and joy, but navigating the buying process can be daunting. To ensure a delightful and regret-free purchase, it's essential to be aware of common pitfalls. This guide outlines six critical mistakes to avoid when buying a hot tub, helping you make an informed choice for your perfect spa experience.

1. Overlooking the Importance of Location

The placement of your hot tub is pivotal. It's not just about aesthetics; it's about privacy, safety, and accessibility. Choose a spot that offers a balance of seclusion and convenience, ensuring the surface is level and sturdy enough to support the hot tub’s weight. Take into account the surrounding landscape for added privacy and shelter from elements like wind.

2. Prioritizing Price Over Quality

While budget considerations are important, don't let price be the sole deciding factor. In the long run, a high-quality hot tub can be more economical due to its energy efficiency, durability, and lower maintenance needs. Investing a bit more upfront can save you significant costs and headaches down the line.

3. Underestimating Maintenance and Operational Costs

Hot tubs require ongoing care, including regular cleaning and water treatment. When budgeting for your hot tub, consider the ongoing expenses of electricity, chemicals, and potential repairs. Be sure to discuss maintenance requirements and associated costs with your dealer before making a decision.

4. Not Test-Driving the Hot Tub

Just like a car, it’s crucial to "test-drive" a hot tub before purchasing. Experience it firsthand; sit in it, test the jets, and gauge the comfort level. This step ensures that the hot tub suits your personal preferences and comfort, including seating layout, jet placement, and additional features like lighting or sound systems.

5. Misjudging the Size Requirements

Hot tubs come in various sizes, and it’s essential to choose one that aligns with your needs. If you often host gatherings or have a large family, a bigger model is preferable. Conversely, a smaller hot tub might suit you better if space is limited or you prefer a more intimate setting. Consider the number of seats, depth, and legroom in your decision.

6. Overlooking the Dealer’s and Manufacturer’s Reputation

The reputation of your hot tub dealer and manufacturer is crucial. They should be known for quality products, reliable customer service, and strong after-sales support. Research their track record, read reviews, and inquire about warranties and support services. A reputable dealer can greatly enhance your hot tub ownership experience.

By steering clear of these common mistakes, you're set to find a hot tub that not only meets but exceeds your expectations. Remember, a hot tub is more than a purchase; it’s an investment in your well-being and a gateway to countless relaxing moments.

A Refreshing Start: 4 Easy Steps to Detox Your Body

Feeling revitalized and rejuvenated is essential for a healthy lifestyle. If you're experiencing fatigue, bloating, or a general sense of unease, it might be time for a detox. Detoxifying your body can be a simple and straightforward process. Here are four easy steps to help cleanse your system and boost your overall health.

1. Revitalize Through Your Diet

The food you consume plays a crucial role in eliminating toxins. Begin by cutting down on processed foods, saturated fats, and sugars. Embrace a diet rich in whole grains, healthy fats like those found in avocados and coconut oil, and a rainbow of fruits and vegetables. Foods like beets, asparagus, blackberries, grapefruit, lentils, and chickpeas are particularly beneficial, as they naturally help cleanse the body of toxins.

2. Incorporate Regular Exercise

Regular physical activity is vital in aiding the body's natural detoxification process. Exercise improves blood and lymph circulation, allowing organs to function more efficiently in toxin removal. Even simple activities like a daily 30-minute walk can have significant benefits, aiding respiratory and digestive health and enhancing overall wellness.

3. Utilize the Power of Sweating

Sweating is a natural and effective means of removing toxins from the body. Engaging in activities that promote sweating, such as taking a hot bath or using a sauna, can be incredibly beneficial. These practices increase blood flow and body temperature, aiding in the elimination of toxins through the skin and helping to release chemicals stored in fat cells.

4. Exfoliate for Healthy Skin

Your skin, being the largest organ and a primary defense against environmental toxins, benefits greatly from regular exfoliation. Use a gentle scrub to clear away pollutants and open up pores, facilitating the removal of accumulated toxins. Remember to moisturize after exfoliating to keep your skin hydrated and healthy.

Embarking on a detox journey can significantly enhance your sense of well-being. These four steps offer a straightforward and effective way to cleanse your body, helping you feel more energetic and healthier. Try incorporating these practices into your routine and notice the positive changes in your overall health and vitality.

Embrace Wellness Year-Round: The Joys of Hydrotherapy Across Seasons

The changing seasons shouldn't hinder your enjoyment of hydrotherapy's myriad benefits. Hot tubs can be a source of comfort, wellness, and relaxation throughout the year, especially during the colder months. Here's why you should consider making hot tub soaking a part of your routine, no matter the season.

1. Stress Reduction in Every Weather

The calming effect of a hot tub's warm water and massaging jets is a powerful antidote to stress and anxiety, which often peak during winter's shorter, darker days. A daily soak provides an oasis of tranquility where you can disconnect, meditate, read, or simply relish the quietude. This peaceful escape is essential for mental well-being and can help in managing daily stressors effectively.

2. Enhance Sleep Quality During Long Nights

The extended darkness of winter nights can disrupt sleep patterns. Hot tubs aid in improving sleep quality by gently increasing your body temperature, then allowing it to cool down, a process that the National Sleep Foundation notes is conducive to falling asleep. A 15-minute session in your hot tub about an hour and a half before bed can set the stage for a restful night, helping you wake up refreshed and rejuvenated.

3. Soothe Muscles After Winter Activities

For those who engage in winter sports like skiing or snowshoeing, a hot tub can be a haven for sore muscles. The combination of warm water and targeted jet massages works effectively to alleviate muscle soreness, reduce inflammation, and enhance flexibility. Adjusting the jet intensity and water temperature allows for a personalized therapeutic experience, making it ideal for post-activity recovery.

Embracing hydrotherapy throughout the year offers a consistent approach to health and wellness. Whether it’s unwinding under a starlit winter sky or enjoying a warm, therapeutic soak on a cool summer evening, a hot tub provides a unique way to experience the healing power of water in every season. So, grab your favorite winter gear, a warm beverage, and step into the soothing embrace of your hot tub, ready to enjoy the beauty of the world around you, no matter the weather.

New Year, New You: Embracing Health and Wellness with a Hot Tub

The New Year brings an opportunity for fresh starts and a renewed focus on health and wellness. After the whirlwind of the holiday season, dedicating time to self-care and relaxation is more important than ever. One of the most enjoyable and effective ways to kickstart your health goals is by embracing the numerous benefits of a hot tub.

1. Ultimate Relaxation and Stress Relief

A hot tub offers the perfect escape to unwind and de-stress. The warm, bubbling water works wonders to relax your muscles and joints, helping to release built-up tension and stress from your body.

The soothing effects of the hot water promote relaxation, aiding in better sleep quality. You'll find it easier to drift off to sleep and enjoy a deeper, more restful night's rest.

2. Physical Health Benefits

Regular hot tub use can significantly alleviate muscle soreness, stiffness, and symptoms of conditions like arthritis and back pain. The hot water and massage jets provide a gentle, therapeutic experience that can improve physical well-being.

The buoyancy of the water reduces stress on joints and muscles, making it an excellent option for low-impact relaxation and recovery.

3. Mental Health and Quality of Life Enhancement

Taking time to relax in a hot tub isn't just physically beneficial; it's also a boon to your mental health. The peaceful environment of a hot tub session can help clear your mind, reduce anxiety, and elevate your mood. Our Story

What should you be looking for?

It is my personal opinion, having worked in technical, warranty and sales management positions for four Canadian Spa manufacturers, and after having extensively reviewed the remaining manufacturers, that while each has unique selling features, most larger North American Manufacturers producing hot tubs for specialty retailers (as opposed to box stores) are relatively close to each other in regards to quality, price & warranties. They have to be as it’s an extremely competitive market.

Once you figure out which line has the best look, feel and value for YOU, the real decision comes down to finding a retailer that you feel comfortable with and who has a proven track record in after-market care. Distance is important as there can be travel or trip fees. You want to make sure to be clear and feel good about the level of service that you can expect to receive after the sale and for the years to follow.

This is one of the most important hot tub decisions you will make. - Lorenz Plourde
