Did you know?
The pace of population ageing is much faster than at any time in history.

Having a healthy lifestyle throughout your life will help you reduce the risk of many chronic diseases and improve your physical and mental wellbeing.

Physiotherapists can advise on how to adopt a healthy lifestyle throughout your life and offer treatments and exercise plans to meet your changing needs.

Happy World Physiotherapy Day!! 🌎🩼

2025 is the year of healthy ageing with a focus on preventing frailty and falls.

❔Did you know? Physiotherapy can help you be as active as possible – people who are more active are up to 41% less likely to have frailty.

🏋️‍♂️ A physiotherapist can develop an exercise programme for you and show you how to gradually increase the resistance and intensity to prevent and treat frailty. This will help to prevent loss of strength and muscle (sarcopenia) and make you fitter by increasing your aerobic and lung capacity.

😎 Now that’s pretty cool!!

🗓️ Unsure where to start? Give New Leaf Physiotherapy a call at 250-826-7300 to book your initial assessment with one of our physiotherapists!

World Physiotherapy Day is next week! Swipe through a few myth busting slides on Healthy Ageing 💪🏻

🏋️ 🏃‍♀️ Exercise is key to fall prevention - physiotherapists are experts in prescribing individualised exercise programmes to help improve your strength, balance, coordination, and flexibility.

It’s never too late to start an exercise programme! People receive benefit from strength training at all ages - speak to a physiotherapist about how to strength train safely.

World Physiotherapy Day is coming soon! Mark your calendars for September 8th, 2025.

The theme this year is the role of physiotherapy and physical activity in healthy ageing, with a focused look at preventing frailty and falls.

———

This will then lead into Fall Prevention Month in November (but every month should be fall prevention month 😉).

Knee Flossing 🦵

The knee joint is a hinge joint, which contains several important structures such as the femur/tibia/fibula, ligaments such as the ACL/PCL/LCL/MCL, tendons, cartilage and meniscus. An injury to any one of these structures could cause swelling in the joint.

Flossing can help mobilize the fluid out of the knee joint to support the muscles around the knee and get the joint moving more effectively.

Are you currently experiencing knee swelling or pain? Would you like to try flossing as part of a plan to get you back moving pain-free? Please call New Leaf Physiotherapy for your at home physiotherapy needs. 250-826-7300 to talk with Lyndsey, a certified Rehabilitation Assistant, to help you book your assessment.

Thigh Flossing!

The thigh muscles are some heavy hitters - they include your quads, hamstrings and groin (adductor) muscles.

These muscles are also susceptible to injury and flossing could be a helpful rehabilitation tool on the journey to recovery.

Want to give flossing a try? Contact New Leaf Physiotherapy for your at home physiotherapy needs. 250-826-7300 to talk with Lyndsey, a certified Rehabiliation Assistant, to help you book your assessment.

Calf / Shin Flossing!

The lower leg has several muscles and tendons which go down the leg and attach into the foot/ankle area. These are muscles of locomotion, the ones that make walking, running, jumping, etc, possible.

In this blog post, we talk about wrapping the floss band around your shin and when it can be beneficial.

Have you injured/pulled/strained/tore your calf muscle recently? Would you like to try flossing as part of a plan to get you back moving painfree? Contact New Leaf Physiotherapy for your at home physiotherapy needs. 250-826-7300
