The dedication of a Northern Nurse knows no bounds. Many of these nurses spend their entire lives in the North. Communities come to depend on these dedicated medical professionals to care for their health their entire lives. It's not unusual for these nurses to have delivered the mother and the grandmother of the baby they just helped bring into the world.

These nurses choose to adopt these Northern communities as their homes and rarely leave, even on their days off. They are isolated from family and friends to accept the challenge of a Northern Nurse.

Our staff also depends on these nurses. They are our co-workers, mentors, and most importantly, our friends.

Recently, one of these beloved ladies chose to retire from her decades of service to the community of Fond Du Lac.

To our sorrow, we learned today of her passing. Susan Henney was the poster girl for Northern Nursing. She was a gruff, rough, and tough type of person who could take on the challenges of isolated Northern living; but, she was the most compassionate, caring, and dedicated women I had ever met. She loved Fond Du Lac and Fond Du Lac loved her.

Rest well Susan, the world is a better place for having you in it.
