The idea of taking care of yourself can often become thoughts of bubble baths and exercise. Both are great! But what would it be like to embrace a sense of self compassion?

We can incorporate self kindness (gentle, kind thoughts toward yourself), common humanity (acknowledging that we’re all along on this same journey, experiencing similar stressors, pain, and love), and mindfulness (being aware of yourself and your surroundings, emotions, needs).
Self compassion is a skill that can be learned; & we can use it in many ways:

That uncomfortable feeling that you usually push away, distract yourself from, or numb yourself to…what would happen if you took a minute to sit with it?
It might feel strange or unpleasant; but you WILL get through that moment. By giving yourself that space, you open up greater understanding and compassion of self. Your emotions are trying to communicate with you; it’s okay to listen.

By teaching and nurturing emotional regulation skills, we can raise (and support) people who know how to manage their emotions; instead of exploding or shutting down at any sign of discomfort…which often leads to pain, addiction, relationship breakdowns, potential crime, and the impact of trauma.

Emotional regulation is a skill; a strong skill that enables healthy survival.

That is how our experiences and perspective can actively change what we see.

When two people are involved in an activity, a conversation, or an intense argument, they are approaching the situation from their individual lens. This doesn’t make one more valuable or “real” than the other, it just means that we can take a step back, acknowledge our differences, & ignite understanding and compassion. ♥️

Your “best” is impacted by so many factors. Just being here, showing up, being you…is enough. ♥️
