Today is a powerful day for reflection and action. By wearing red, we are joining a vital movement to break the silence surrounding the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+).

In the wake of the devastating news that a mass grave of possibly 171 children was found at St Mary’s Residential School at Wauzhushk Onigum, we are honouring and extending healing for all who are grieving. We send our love and support to all our relatives, leadership, communities, staff, and friends within our circles as the pain reverberates through all communities across the nation.

This is a difficult time and now this news revives and heightens the trauma of survivors, their families, and communities. We encourage you to reach out to those in your circle to check in with them. We at Waasegiizhig Nanaandawe’iyewigamig are here for all who are grieving and hold space for all of you. Please call our Emotional Wellness Team if you need someone to talk to, 1-888-699-6422.

Miigwech to our Cultural Coordinators, drummers and elders for rendering healing songs and ceremony this morning. There will be Sweat Lodge Ceremonies this evening at the Round House, Healing Lodge, Washagamis Bay at 6pm and at Bug Lake Lodge at 5pm, all are welcome.

Please consider wearing orange this week to demonstrate that every child matters and to honour the survivors, as well as those who did not make it home.🧡
