In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Call to Action #23, is committed to providing culturally safe care and Anishinaabe cultural competency educational opportunities for all staff education including:
• Day-to-day support for all staff via the IPRD team who offer culturally informed guidance and support to hospital staff as they provide care in ways that honor Indigenous perspectives and promote respectful, holistic healing.
• Online introduction to Indigenous cultural safety at time of hire
• Cultural teaching videos developed specifically for LWDH staff by local knowledge keepers.
• In-person Anti Racism and Cultural Safety 4-module training program developed by KCA specifically for those working in healthcare with the goal of having all staff participate in this meaningful opportunity by 2027. (Call to Action #23)

In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action 18, is working in partnership with Ogimaawabiitong Kenora Chiefs Advisory (KCA) and Waasegiizhig Nanaandawe'iyewigamig (WNHAC) to have a strong Indigenous Patient Relations Department (IPRD) in our current hospital. The IPRD includes a robust cultural program and is staffed by incredibly compassionate and caring people (patient navigators, and department manager). Sincere thanks to the team of Donna, Rose, Bobby, Damian, and Heather for all they do as part of the IPRD team.

Please be advised that a COVID-19 Outbreak has been declared on on one unit of (2E). The LWDH Infection Control team is investigating the outbreak and is working collaboratively with the Northwestern Health Unit to ensure effective control strategies.

The health and safety of our patients, their families and our entire hospital team is our utmost priority. Considering the outbreak, visitor restrictions have been implemented to the affected unit. The restriction is effective Thursday September 18th at 11am until further notice. Limited exceptions may apply, please speak to the unit manager.

Masking is mandatory throughout all inpatient units as well as the Emergency Department. This includes hallways and corridors and applies to all staff, patients and visitors who are permitted. All other patient care areas of the hospital are also encouraged to mask up.
