Today is World Down Syndrome Day!

To show our support we have "rocked our socks" at KACL! Socks were chosen because they symbolize chromosomes, celebrating the extra 21st chromosome of Down syndrome. The 2026 theme is “Together Against Loneliness". So call up some friends, say hi and smile to people as you do your shopping, wear some brightly coloured, fun socks today, and be sure to include people of all abilities.

"Diversity is having a seat at the table, inclusion is having a voice, and belonging is having that voice be heard." — Liz Fosslien

💙💛 Today is World Down Syndrome Day! 💙💛

Every year on 21 March, people around the world come together to celebrate people with Down syndrome and speak up for their rights, inclusion, and wellbeing.

This year, we are standing Together Against Loneliness.

If you are wearing bright socks today — we love you. 🧦 If you are sharing this post — thank you. 💛 If you are learning something new about Down syndrome today — welcome. 💙

Every share, every sock, every kind word makes a difference. Happy World Down Syndrome Day! 🎉

Inclusion is most powerful when everyone takes part!
Why not hold a day at your school or workplace? It’s a great way to start conversations about the rights and well-being of all the people in our communities. Loneliness often starts early when children are "present" but not "invited". By wearing socks and donating, you support global projects that fight for real inclusion in schools and workplaces.
🏆 Pro-tip: Host a "best socks" competition or create your own sock bunting to get everyone involved!

This month, we would like to acknowledge MKT Holdings and Canadian Tire as Inclusive Employers!

Since 2021, Canadian Tire has been a steadfast supporter of Inclusive Employment. Their leadership team continually creates equitable opportunities for people of all abilities to thrive in their workplace while fostering a team environment where employees have roles that match their skills and goals.

Since 2022, MKT Holdings has partnered with KACL Employment Services to connect several people with meaningful and gainful employment. Fostering a workplace that supports independence, MKT Holdings empowers their employees to take steps towards success in their chosen profession, in their own time and ways.

Thanks, Canadian Tire and MKT Holdings, for your continued commitment to inclusivity in our community! 🏆

Did you know that 9 out of 12 Council members at Community Living Ontario are women?

These women bring their lived experience forward to advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Ontario.

We are grateful for their leadership, guidance, and the voices they continue to uplift every day.

Happy International Women’s Day to all the amazing women making a difference.

KACL was proud to be a part of this year’s annual Coldest Night of the Year, which is a country-wide charity event that seeks to raise funds for those experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness.

While KACL wasn’t an official sponsor of CNOY 2026, we did have a presence on Saturday evening alongside dozens of other community members, even though the temperatures once again took a dive and it really was a freezing cold night.

Here in Kenora, CNOY 2026 raised over $30,000 – and counting – to go toward those in need, thanks to the hard work of the Kenora Fellowship Centre, Jubilee Church of God, and all of the volunteers and teams that participated.

If you would like to know more, or donate to the cause, head to cnoy.org/location/kenora for more information.
