Our Story

It’s a juggling act to provide the health and nutrition kids need in a snack with the convenience and taste they want, but the folks at Van Meekeren Farms near Kentville, Nova Scotia, are confident they’ve struck the right balance. The family has been in the apple-growing business since 1964, and blessed with some of the richest agricultural conditions anywhere, it has grown steadily in over a half century of progress, with a eye to ensure all procedures carefully take the environment into account.

They grow a total of 14 different varieties of apples, including the innovative and delicious honeycrisp type, with all the goodness of the Annapolis Valley in every bite. But with their experience with apples, they feel they’ve struck just the right balance between the convenience and satisfying crunch of traditional potato chip snacks with the nutritional benefits and appealing taste of Annapolis Valley apples.

They’ve developed a recipe for a tasty apple chip, but with none of the added sugar, salt, preservatives or additives that we all want to avoid. A typical bag will contain the equivalent of a medium to large size apple, which would include nutrients such as Vitamin C.

So while it’s a great recess, lunchtime, or after-school snack for the kids, it’s also an attractive alternative for adults who want that familiar crunch of a chip, but without all unnecessary and unhealthy aspects of other sweet or salty treats.
