This review from Shemaiah says it all, and it touches on something I feel strongly about.

Yes, you can learn TRE (Trauma Releasing Exercises) from a YouTube video. And that has value. But there is so much nuance that comes from learning human-to-human.

Our nervous systems learn to self-regulate through co-regulation, being in the presence of a safe, grounded person. Not just once, but across a few repeated sessions. That repetition is where the real shift happens.

Most people need between 3–6 sessions to feel truly comfortable with the neurogenic tremors. Some need a little more support, others less. There's no one-size-fits-all, and that's exactly why having someone with you matters.

What Shemaiah describes, feeling safe, supported, and more connected in daily life, that's what becomes possible when the nervous system finally gets to exhale.

When an antelope escapes the jaws of a predator, it picks itself up, has a good shake and then carries on munching grass like nothing happened.

Very quickly, the antelope is ‘over it’. We’re the only species that walks around bottling everything all up, preferring to stay braced against life.

And that’s exactly why I’m so passionate about teaching Trauma and Tension Releasing Exercises (TRE).

We need safe and easy ways of releasing tension and resetting the reflexes and habits in the central nervous system - we need to wake up our bodies.

TRE works by deliberately activating that involuntary shaking that we’ve all experienced at times of terror, to discharge stress and balance the nervous system – a kind of factory reset, if you like.

As we do this, we actually rewire our nervous systems, and set ourselves free from the default stress patterns which were set up to protect us. It’s been referred to as ‘trauma-proofing’. We can’t stop difficult life events, but they don’t have to break us.
