This day can be tremendously painful so we want to ensure that you are taking care of yourself and your heart.
October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.
If you know someone who has experienced a loss, here are some ways to support them. While every loss and experience is unique, we know that for many, the pain, grief and mourning process of a loss can often be done quietly and behind closed doors for a plethora of reasons. Many perinatal losses are not acknowledged in the same way by friends and family. Many women, pregnant people, birthers and families suffer in silence.
According to the WHO, in 2017, there were more than 4 million deaths of infants under a year old, an estimated 2.6 million stillbirths and approximately 17-22% of pregnancies that result in miscarriage globally. This is a lot of grief and suffering. These numbers also demonstrate how common these experiences and losses can be. Where possible and to each individualβs comfort level, it can be really helpful for folks to speak about their experiences because it serves to destigmatize and normalize these experiences while also serving as a point of connection, community and support.
For many, this serves as a day of deep grief and acknowledgement for what was or could have been. For others, this serves as a day of gratitude, remembrance and awareness.
However this day may be landing you, we encourage you to embrace it and take what you need.
We see you.
We honor you.
We love you.
