Why Take a Birth Class?

Birth is a big deal—and you don’t have to go in unprepared. A CBK Birth class gives you the knowledge, tools, and confidence to face labour, birth, and postpartum with clarity and calm.

You'll learn how birth works (yes, your body is amazing!), what your options are, and how to make informed decisions along the way. You’ll explore comfort techniques, medical interventions, and how your support person can be truly helpful—not just present.

It’s not about scripting your birth—it’s about building understanding and flexibility so you can feel more in control, no matter how things unfold.

Birth doesn’t have to be scary. With the right preparation, it can be powerful! 💪

Birth Affirmations help expecting families cultivate a calm, confident, and empowered mindset during pregnancy and labor. Here’s why having powerful positive thoughts can be so effective:

🌸 Rewires the Mind for Confidence – Repeating affirmations helps replace fear and doubt with trust in the body’s natural ability to give birth!

🧘 Reduces Stress and Anxiety – Affirmations promote relaxation, lowering cortisol levels and making labor a more positive experience!

❤️ Strengthens the Mind-Body Connection – Words have power; affirmations reinforce a sense of control, helping the body respond with ease and calmness!

🌿 Shifts Focus from Pain to Empowerment – Instead of fearing pain, affirmations help reframe contractions as waves of power bringing the baby closer!

💪 Supports Emotional Well-Being – Encourages feelings of strength, trust, and self-love, making the journey into parenthood more joyful for everyone!

The history of Doulas is deeply rooted in both ancient practices and modern developments in maternal care. The role of a doula has evolved over time, influenced by cultural practices, the medicalization of childbirth, and the resurgence of more holistic approaches to birth.
Doulas are first and foremost there for your Emotional and Physical comfort. These have been the 2 main pillars of Birth support since time immemorial! The modern Doula also comes with a added later of Informational support to help you navigate the modern medical practices we give Birth with today!

Our Story....

Since 1970, Childbirth Kingston has been an independent organization in the Kingston community, promoting and supporting informed decision making through our Prepared Childbirth classes. Childbirth Kingston now operates alongside the Doula Support Foundation, and together we stand committed to recognizing the birthing person as the center of the birth experience, and respect that each family is unique in their needs, choices, and experiences. Our classes promote a full range of childbirth options, responsive to the needs of the community.

Our courses are intended to prepare you mentally, emotionally, and physically for a healthy and positive birth experience. This is not a ‘natural childbirth’ course, we do not suggest that you could have a painless labor. Instead, we aim to provide you with many tools for working and coping with your labour so that you will feel that you were actively participating in the birth of your baby. We encourage you to communicate with your caregivers and fully understand your options.

Our classes have been designed for birthing people and their birth partners, and want to warmly welcome those of you who are supporting someone preparing to give birth. Providing emotional and physical support to a birthing person holds exceptional reward and responsibility.

Our philosophy encourages parents to make informed choices by understanding risks and benefits and considering alternatives, as well as developing an appreciation of what is right for themselves in terms of care and support. We encourage you to take responsibility for making your own decisions. Although the educators and Doulas work closely and collaborate with Kington Health Sciences Center and the Kingston Community Midwives, Childbirth Kingston is an independent source of information.
