Since 1970, Childbirth Kingston has been an independent organization in the Kingston community, promoting and supporting informed decision making through our Prepared Childbirth classes. Childbirth Kingston now operates alongside the Doula Support Foundation, and together we stand committed to recognizing the birthing person as the center of the birth experience, and respect that each family is unique in their needs, choices, and experiences. Our classes promote a full range of childbirth options, responsive to the needs of the community.
Our courses are intended to prepare you mentally, emotionally, and physically for a healthy and positive birth experience. This is not a ‘natural childbirth’ course, we do not suggest that you could have a painless labor. Instead, we aim to provide you with many tools for working and coping with your labour so that you will feel that you were actively participating in the birth of your baby. We encourage you to communicate with your caregivers and fully understand your options.
Our classes have been designed for birthing people and their birth partners, and want to warmly welcome those of you who are supporting someone preparing to give birth. Providing emotional and physical support to a birthing person holds exceptional reward and responsibility.
Our philosophy encourages parents to make informed choices by understanding risks and benefits and considering alternatives, as well as developing an appreciation of what is right for themselves in terms of care and support. We encourage you to take responsibility for making your own decisions. Although the educators and Doulas work closely and collaborate with Kington Health Sciences Center and the Kingston Community Midwives, Childbirth Kingston is an independent source of information.
We would love to have the opportunity to accompany you on your journey💕
