As spring approaches, we kindly remind families that seasonal grounds maintenance will begin soon at Cataraqui Cemetery in Kingston, Ontario.

Artificial flowers, winter decorations, and wreaths are permitted from November 1 through April 30 and should be removed by April 30 each year to allow for spring cleanup and ongoing cemetery maintenance.

From May 1 through October 31, only fresh cut flowers and guideline-approved plantings are permitted during the growing season, in accordance with the cemetery’s by-laws and decoration guidelines.

Items remaining after April 30 may be removed during routine grounds maintenance. Due to operational requirements, items cannot be stored or returned and may be discarded without further notice.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping maintain the beauty, safety, and dignity of Kingston’s historic garden cemetery.

As our region experiences heavy snowfall and severe winter conditions, Cataraqui Cemetery staff are working diligently to ensure that funeral services, the cemetery, and our crematorium continue to operate as safely as possible. The operations team is actively clearing entrances, roadways, pathways, and other essential areas. However, to protect the safety of families, visitors, and staff, access to certain cemetery sections or locations may be limited. We kindly ask families for patience and understanding as conditions continue to evolve. The safety of our visitors and staff remains the top priority. Families are encouraged to check directly with the cemetery office (613-546-6545, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) for the most up-to-date information. Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and trust during this challenging weather.

We want to let everyone know that there are icy and slippery areas throughout the cemetery due to current weather conditions. If you are planning a visit, please take extra care when walking or driving, wear proper footwear, move slowly and be mindful of staff and equipment.

Our team is keeping an eye on conditions and doing what we can as weather allows. Thank you for your patience and for helping us keep the cemetery safe for all visitors.

Did you know: Since 1865 (2 years prior to Canadian Confederation), nestled within the picturesque grounds of Cataraqui Cemetery is the "Field of Honour". A dedicated military section that is the final resting place for over 800 individuals who served our country and the Commonwealth. The unique military style headstones surround the Cross of Sacrifice. A nearly 20 foot tall memorial that is one of only 26 such memorials erected in North America. Lest we forget.
