Spruce Health Hub now open in Kingston, expanding access to primary care

The FLA OHT, in partnership with Maple Family Health Team and regional primary care partners, officially opened the Spruce Health Hub at 714 Front Rd., today, February 19, 2026.

The Spruce Health Hub is designed to improve access to primary care and help more people connect to ongoing care close to home. It supports family doctors and nurse practitioners with a shared team of health professionals and a single, coordinated referral point for several services.

“This Hub is what collaboration looks like in action,” said Dr. Kim Morrison, Executive Lead, FLA OHT. “People gain direct access to care under one roof,” added Ashley Miller, Executive Director, Maple Family Health Team.

Services include mental health care, chronic disease management, physiotherapy, nursing, dietitian and social work support. By strengthening capacity and reducing barriers, the Hub helps more people get the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

Le Spruce Health Hub ouvre ses portes pour renforcer l'accès aux soins primaires à Kingston

Le FLA OHT, en partenariat avec le Maple Family Health Team et des partenaires régionaux en soins primaires, a officiellement inauguré aujourd’hui, le 19 février 2026, le Spruce Health Hub, situé au 714, chemin Front.

Cette nouvelle initiative vise à améliorer l’accès aux soins primaires et à permettre à davantage de personnes de se rattacher à des soins continus près de chez elles. Elle appuie les médecins de famille et les infirmières praticiennes grâce à une équipe interdisciplinaire partagée et à un point d’accès coordonné pour plusieurs services.

« Cette initiative illustre concrètement ce que peut accomplir la collaboration », a déclaré Dre Kim Morrison, directrice exécutive du FLA OHT. « Les gens peuvent désormais accéder directement à plusieurs services sous un même toit », a ajouté Ashley Miller, directrice générale du Maple Family Health Team.

Les services offerts comprennent le soutien en santé mentale, la gestion des maladies chroniques, la physiothérapie, les soins infirmiers, les services d’une diététiste et le travail social.

En renforçant la capacité du système et en réduisant les obstacles, le Spruce Health Hub aide plus de personnes à recevoir les bons soins, au bon endroit, au bon moment.

Through its social enterprise, Teach Resilience, KCHC is now offering trauma-informed training beyond KFL&A, helping community health centres, primary care providers, schools, and social service agencies deliver more responsive, equitable, and client-centred care.

“Trauma-informed care isn’t just for certain patients—it should be a universal precaution,” says Dr. Mary Rowland, a key medical advisor and facilitator at Teach Resilience. “Understanding a person’s upbringing and life experiences is essential to addressing their current health needs.”

The three-day, in-person training is offered as a Queen’s University–accredited course and has already been attended by over 2,000 health care providers in the KFL&A region. The goal is to make trauma-informed approaches a standard practice across Ontario.

🩺🧬🎉 – We’re pleased to recognize Dr. Aws Almufleh on his induction into the TIME Hall of Fame, following his recent publication in the Journal of Cardiac Failure.

Dr. Almufleh is the first author of The Canadian Heart Failure Society Workforce Committee Report 2024, led by the Canadian Heart Failure Society. The report examines key challenges facing heart failure providers across Canada, including training pathways, compensation inequities, mentorship gaps, clinician burnout, and workforce sustainability, and outlines practical solutions to help strengthen care now and into the future.

In his role with the Frontenac, Lennox & Addington Ontario Health Team (FLA OHT), Dr. Almufleh serves as Physician Specialist Lead for the Chronic Heart Failure Integrated Care Pathway. We recognize the importance of this work in supporting a resilient health-care workforce and improving outcomes for people living with heart failure.

EN - The ongoing work on Truth and Reconciliation remains a priority for the Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Ontario Health Team (FLA OHT). Through continued efforts to strengthen culturally respectful and inclusive care, the FLA OHT is working to advance Indigenous health equity across the region. These efforts include deepening collaboration with Indigenous communities and fostering listening, partnership, and respectful, inclusive approaches to care.

In alignment with this commitment, we are pleased to share the City of Kingston’s invitation to a community event reflecting on progress toward reconciliation.

EVENT: Ten Years Forward: Reflections on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report

Join Marie Wilson, Canadian journalist and Truth and Reconciliation Commission commissioner, and Stephen Kakfwi, Dene leader and former Northwest Territories premier, for an informal conversation on the progress made toward reconciliation since the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report in 2015.

Marie and Stephen will look back at the past decade and discuss the opportunities and challenges ahead. They will also share reflections from their 2025 publications: North of Nowhere by Marie Wilson and Stoneface: A Defiant Dene by Stephen Kakfwi.
Registration is free, with a pay-what-you-can option available at the door to help cover event costs. Books will also be available for purchase.
