Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms, wherever you are in your journey.

To those with your little ones in your arms, full of joy,
To those who are still waiting and still hoping,
To those who are missing their babies today,
To those walking through the hardest parts of motherhood,
To those missing their own mom today.
___

If you love someone who may need a little extra support today, here are some gentle tips:
• Acknowledge their experience. A simple “I’m thinking of you today”.
• Avoid trying to ‘fix’. Their feelings do not need fixing. Offer support over solutions.
• Ask them about their grief/loss. Ask them about the person they’re missing today.
• Nothing good it starts with “at least…”….Ever.

Just be present.

Happy Mother’s Day to you 🤍💐

🤍 Sitting here at the end of a busy week feeling so eternally grateful for my strong, vulnerable and kind clients.

There are so many days that I just feel at a loss of words to describe how it feels to have amazing human beings sit and share their most difficult thoughts, darkest moments and also their most joyful experiences with me.

They let me be a part of their life for either a brief moment in time to navigate specific circumstances- or long term where they let me be a part of the good and the bad.

- just grateful.

(Pictured flowers from a lovely client to celebrate joyful news after many sessions navigating the darkest moments.)

Sharing with the correct dates this time 🤦🏼‍♀️

So excited for this one!

Join us for our 2 part webinar series on Managing Motherhood!

Part 1 will dive in to Anxiety & Intrusive Thoughts, and what makes them more prominent in Motherhood.

Part 2 will explore the popular term ‘Mom Rage’, how it differs from Anger and the causes leading to Burnout in Motherhood.

Our amazing students, Kelsey and Sarah, will be joining along to help share coping tools and strategies to better manage these common challenges. We hope that you will leave feeling more in control of YOUR Motherhood Experience.
You can join one or choose to come to both! We would love to have you.

See you there!

When a loss or a big change happens in a child’s life, they do not express their grief with words. Children show grief through play, physical and behavioural changes. Many times grief can show up in physical ways such as stomachaches, headaches or appetite changes. Depending on age, you may find that the child is regressing, ‘acting out’ or not wanting to go to school.

Children often “puddle jump” through grief. One minute they may be asking you about the death/loss, the next they may be wanting to play outside. This can be confusing and overwhelming at times for caregivers.

I am so happy to be able to offer support in these areas. My goal is to create a safe, comfortable and fun environment for kids to share their experiences/emotions at their pace, while developing coping strategies through play.

If you feel like your child could benefit from some support in this area, please reach out, or book a session!

Hi!

It’s been a while, so I thought I’d take a moment to re-connect and say hello again.

As most of my clients/therapist friends know- I’m not great at social media.
I get a little quiet and intimidated on here! But, one of my intentions for this year is to show up more often, sharing meaningful content/resources that resonate with you, and hopefully help in your everyday life.

Over the last year and a half, both I and my business have grown and evolved (get it??) in so many ways! So, I thought I would share where I am now.

If you’re new here, Welcome! If you have been around since the beginning, THANK YOU for following along on this journey!

I’m Sarah! I am a RN Psychotherapist passionate about supporting individuals, couples and children through all of the messy, beautiful and chaotic transitions of life. I work out of with some of the most amazing therapists.

I started this business with just offering support in Perinatal Mental Health. With my background in Perinatal Nursing, I knew that I had a passion for supporting this area and became Certified to work with this population.

That is where this amazing journey began-and it is still a huge passion of mine!
But, since opening, I have expanded my scope of practice and now work with all individuals, couples and children in many different steps of life.

Life is chaotic. I believe that having a connection in that chaos as well as a safe and supportive space to share your story is essential to the healing process.

I feel so eternally grateful to have the most amazing clients that trust in me to share their story and allow me to be a part of their healing journey. I look forward to this new chapter of growth and seeing what comes next!

✨ There are some very exciting events and services coming in the next few months, and I can’t wait to share them with you! Stay tuned – there’s so much to look forward to!

Thank you for being here and allowing me to be your connection in the chaos! If you are still looking for that missing connection, reach out to see if we may be a good fit!

Just a reminder that grief doesn’t take a holiday. Grief can be incredibly difficult during Christmas when there is so much expectation to feel ‘joy’. Guilt can follow closely behind. Guilt over not feeling as joyful as others around you and being a ‘downer’, or guilt over sharing a laugh while simultaneously missing your loved one. One minute you’re decking the halls, and the next you’re crying into the eggnog.

It’s okay to feel all the feels this season. Create and respect your boundaries. Laugh, cry and eat too many Christmas cookies. Create space for your grief. Honour your loved one in whatever way feels right to you. Show yourself grace and compassion during the difficult moments.

Remember: Grief and joy can coexist- and both are allowed at the christmas table. 🎄❤️💚

Todays is Children’s Grief Awareness Day 💙

Did you know that in Canada- 1 in 14 kids will lose a parent or sibling before the age of 18?

We tend to shy away from children’s grief, wondering how much they are impacted. Studies show that children as young as toddlers can feel aspects of grief- however it may not be displayed in ways we are used to seeing. Grief in children doesn’t usually come out as words, but often as behaviour changes and somatic symptoms. These can sometimes be misunderstood and misdiagnosed.

It is important to check in with our kids when a loss has occurred. Whether it be a death, divorce or a big life change. It’s up to the adults to initiate these conversations- while letting the child lead in the questions and capacity for information.

I am so grateful to be opening up sessions in the next short while to support local children in our community who may be experiencing grief and loss.

is a great resource for information!

Such a wonderful reminder added to the office! Made by the amazing .studio

Motherhood is hard. It can be overwhelming. You will feel frustrated and completely drained some days. And that’s okay.

The sleepless nights, endless messes, and constant demands can feel never ending.

Feel those hard feelings.

But then remember, it’s all just a phase. These tough moments won’t last forever. The crying, the tantrums, the clinginess, the middle of the night crawls into your bed —it all passes. And one day, you’ll find yourself missing the chaos and the midnight cuddles.

So, let yourself feel what you need to feel. This is a hard phase and those feelings are valid.
But when you can, pause, listen to the giggles, encourage the messy play, hold those little hands. Build a strong, playful and confident child.

One day this phase will be over and you will be onto the next amazing phase. 🤍

NEW SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT! 🤰🏼

•Perinatal Brief Therapy Sessions•

Brief therapy is meant to be a short term process that is focused on your present and near future.
While pregnancy can be such an exciting time in your life, it can also bring up feelings of anxiety and anticipation about what is to come. This service was created to provide support and education to expecting moms who may have worries/concerns, but don’t know where to begin.

As a Nurse Psychotherapist certified in perinatal mental health, I saw an opportunity to blend aspects of psychotherapy and nursing to create sessions focused on providing support and education in the most important areas during this time. The sessions were created around common topics discussed with Moms in therapy such as expectations in motherhood, mom rage/guilt and loss of identity. In addition, the sessions cover perinatal nursing education to increase your knowledge around L&D, newborn care and postpartum healing as well as relationship changes. The goal is to become more confident, better educated and develop strategies that set you up for success in the postpartum period.

The 3 sessions are 90 minutes each and can be scheduled in person or virtually anywhere in Ontario.

Sessions will be available starting Mid/Late August and the WAITLIST is NOW OPEN!

If you have any questions or would like more information, DM or email me at sarah@evolvetherapykingston.com
