Chronic hepatitis C doesn’t just affect the liver - it’s also linked to a higher risk of cardiovascular disease.

Systemic inflammation, metabolic changes, and vascular damage caused by long-term Hep C infection can all increase the risk of:
➡️Atherosclerosis
➡️ Heart attacks
➡️ Strokes

As a cardiologist, I think it’s important we raise awareness about how interconnected our organ systems are - and how conditions that may seem unrelated to the heart can have a real impact on cardiovascular health.

📆 July 28th is World Hepatitis Day - a reminder that early detection, treatment, and awareness can save lives 📆

Let’s keep connecting the dots because when we look at the whole patient, not just one system - we do better.

As a cardiologist, I’m always on the lookout for treatments that make a real difference - not just for one organ, but for the whole patient.

Finerenone is one of the most promising developments we’ve seen in cardiorenal medicine.
➡️ It offers protection for both the heart and kidneys

➡️It’s better tolerated in many patients than traditional MRAs

➡️ And it’s already changing the way we treat people with Chronic Kidney Disease, type 2 diabetes, and heart failure.

In this week’s episode of Beatwise The Podcast, I’m joined by Dr. Muthu Vaduganathan to talk through how Finerenone works, what the latest evidence shows, and how we’re using it in practice.

If you’re a clinician or a curious patient - this one’s for you.

Did you know that after menopause, the risk of cardiovascular disease rises significantly?

Menopause isn’t just about hot flashes and mood swings - it’s a whole-body transition that impacts your heart health too.

That’s because the protective effects of estrogen decrease, affecting blood vessels, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure.

In this carousel, I break down the key ways menopause can impact your heart and share practical tips to protect yourself during this phase of life.

Swipe through to learn what changes to watch for, lifestyle steps to take, and when to speak to your doctor.

P.S. If you want to dive deeper, check out my podcast episode #21 where I chat all things menopause and heart health.

It’s not just sunburn you need to watch out for in a heatwave… ☀️

High temperatures can place serious stress on your heart - especially if you’re living with a condition like heart failure, atrial fibrillation or high blood pressure.

The scary part is that most people don’t realise how much the heat is affecting them until it’s too late.

As a cardiologist, I’ve seen a real spike in hospital admissions during heatwaves - and most of them are avoidable with a bit of planning and awareness.

So I put together 5 practical tips to help protect your heart in hot weather. Whether you’re managing a heart condition or supporting someone who is, this is for you.

🧠 Swipe through, save it for later, and share it with someone who needs to see it.

When we talk about obesity, it’s easy to default to oversimplified explanations like “eat less, move more.”

But the reality is that obesity is not one-size-fits-all. It’s not just about willpower or lifestyle choices - it’s about biology, hormones, genetics, and environment.

Swipe through this carousel to explore seven different types of obesity, each with unique underlying causes ➡️

This isn’t just fascinating = it’s vital. These distinctions change how we approach treatment, support, and public health messaging.

It’s time to move beyond shame-based narratives and lean into science, empathy, and personalised care.
