🤔 Mastitis vs Clogged Duct — What’s the difference?

They can feel similar, but knowing which one you're dealing with can change everything.

Let’s break it down 👇
🔸 Clogged (or Plugged) Duct
🧊 A small, localized area of breast swelling
🍼 Milk gets backed up and has trouble draining
😖 Tender lump or knot that might soften after feeding
🔥 Warm to the touch but NO fever or body aches

What helps?
✔️ Keep nursing or pumping as usual
✔️ Gentle lymphatic massage BEFORE feeds
✔️ Cold packs after feeds (10 mins max)
✔️ Eat anti-inflammatory foods & boost choline intake
🚫 No more heat, vibration, or aggressive massage — it can make things worse!
🔸 Mastitis
💥 Inflammation in most or all of the breast
🥵 Redness, heat, pain — plus chills, fever, body aches
📉 Milk supply might dip while your body fights inflammation
⚠️ Often caused by unresolved clogs, oversupply, poor fit flanges, or infection

What helps?
✔️ All of the above for clogs, PLUS:
✔️ Probiotics with L. fermentum or L. salivarius
✔️ Ibuprofen (check dosage with your provider)
✔️ Hourly icing (5-10 mins)
✔️ Antibiotics may be needed (consult your doctor)
✔️ Get a milk culture if no improvement in 48 hrs

💡 Bonus: You do not need to pump and dump- your milk is safe!

‼️ Not sure what’s going on? You don’t have to guess. I offer 1:1 consults to help treat the issue and get to the root cause. Comment "relief" and I’ll DM you the link to book a session! 💬

Hi everyone!
I'm looking for testimonials from parents I have helped with lactation to share on my website. It has been a while since I have assisted any breastfeeding parents, so this may be a bit of a long shot!
If I have offered you support, please send me a message with a testimonial :)

Now booking for the following months!

Home lactation counseling is wonderful because you're in your element. It allows me to assess how feeding is going exactly how you do it each time, you're more comfortable, an older babe will be more focused on the task and overall, we can sort out issues with more ease.

My availability is Wednesday, Thursday, Friday evenings after 6 and Saturday and Sundays between 9 and 5.

First time sessions usually take about 90 minutes, while we chat about what's been going on, your history and babe's, assess breastfeeding, do an oral exam on babe if needed, etc. After our meeting I will send you an email with what we went over.
Some only need a phone call follow up, some need ongoing support.

Okay, hear me out. Non-nutritive sucking is bonding. Bonding is productive. This can be done with a non-lacting parent or a lactating parent.
A little story about when one of my children were born:
I had a cesarean because he was squished sideways. I was having a complication and became unwell, so I my husband had to take our little one from me. He was the first one to have our son suckling at his ni**le! My husband just soaked it in and enjoyed it while it lasted ❤️

*this of course is for a babe feeding well, otherwise - wet diapers, no pain, etc.

Merry Christmas! Don't forget to prioritize nourishing your babe and yourself today ❤️ whether that means breastfeeding at the dinner table, sneaking away to pump in peace or digging into delicious cookies.

🔹Although the exact cause is unknown, we think that SIDS might be associated with defects in the portion of an infant's brain that controls breathing and arousal from sleep.

🔹Breastfeeding has been shown to have a protective effect against SIDS, and this includes breastfeeding even part of the time (see study below).

🔹Breastfeeding babies tend to wake and rouse from sleep more easily and more frequently than formula-fed babies at 2-3 months, the peak age when SIDS occurs.

You may start to hear questions about the end of your breastfeeding relationship once babe starts solids. There's an idea that at a certain point, breastmilk no longer offers adequate nourishment for a child.
Breastmilk loses no value and even evolves to meet your growing child's needs.

“Human milk in the second year postpartum contained significantly higher concentrations of lactoferrin, lysozyme and Immunoglobulin A, than milk bank samples” collected from donors less than 12 months postpartum. (Perrin 2016)

Not that you need it, but here's more of a reason to continue nursing your toddler ❤️ the benefits go on and on!
