St. Lawrence Optometry provides full-service eye care for the whole family in Kingston, ON. Lawrence Optometry is Kingston's oldest and largest optometry clinic.

Our Optometrists are dedicated eye care professionals who pride themselves on providing the best quality care in a personal, professional and considerate manner. Our full service on-site optical lab and dispensary carries a large selection of frames, sunglasses and contact lenses, from designer frames to value packages, with products to suit anyone's budget. We are thrilled to welcome back Dr. Michaela Hellinga!

Dr. Michaela worked for us as a summer student prior to starting her optometry schooling. She was also an imperative part of our staff team when we were able to re-open at the start of the pandemic. Once finishing optometry school she started her career in Fort Frances, ON and we’re so happy to welcome her back “home” now!

Full bio below:
Michaela earned her Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Guelph in 2019, where she also competed on the Women’s Varsity Volleyball Team. She later graduated from the University of Waterloo’s Doctor of Optometry program in 2023, earning a spot on the Dean’s Honour List. After completing her studies, Michaela began her career as an Associate Optometrist in Fort Frances, Ontario, focusing on ocular disease, binocular vision, and the challenges of practicing in a remote clinical setting.

Michaela is deeply committed to improving access to eye care for underserved communities. She serves as President of the Eye Health Institute, a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive eye care in Jamaica annually. Additionally, she frequently travels to various communities in Nunavut to offer eye care and spectacle services. These opportunities to serve are a key reason Michaela pursued a career in optometry, and she feels grateful to make a difference in these ways.

Having spent time visiting family in the Kingston area during her childhood, Michaela has always been captivated by its natural beauty and outdoor activities. Now a local resident, she looks forward to discovering and sharing her favorite local businesses and activities.
