Members of the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a drowning incident in Silver Lake Provincial Park.

On Saturday, August 16, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., OPP responded to a call for service for a swimmer that had gone missing after jumping out of a canoe into the water.

A 26-year-old male has been recovered and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The OPP Marine Unit, and the Tay Valley Fire Department assisted in the effort.

Yesterday around 9:30 a.m., Leeds County OPP responded to a drowning incident on Wolfe Island, where an unresponsive toddler was located in the St. Lawrence River near Stoney Point Lane.

Family members and first responders immediately initiated life-saving measures. The toddler was transported to a regional trauma centre and was later pronounced deceased.

January is National Bath Safety Month. Parents and caregivers, this is your reminder to always stay within arms' reach until the water has fully drained. Most bathtub drownings occur because children are left alone for "just for a moment."
