Head of Swim Programs Onondaga Camp
Dates of Employment Start Date: June 19, 2026 End Date: August 28, 2026 Location: Minden, ON (live on site. Room & board included)
The Position The Head of Swim Programs oversees all aspects of an extensive swim program. Onondaga Camp delivers LifeSaving Society Swim Lessons to over 400 participants daily. Duties include:
- Schedule and supervise a team of swim staff to deliver program.
- Ensure accurate record keeping of all swim records for each session.
- Provide feedback to all staff, including informal and bi-weekly reviews
- Ensure swim tests are completed on the first night of each session.
- Organize and schedule and Bronze Med & Bronze Cross exams
Necessary Qualifications/Competencies
- Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Qualification (NL). NL waterfront is considered an asset.
- Lifesaving Society Examiners is an asset.
- Previous experience working at a summer camp is preferable.
- The ideal candidate possesses exceptional organization skills
- As noted, this is a position which involves working closely with camp staff who are responsible for keeping our campers safe on the waterfront with strong guarding techniques and attention to safety. People skills and understanding of others is key in this position.
The Camp Since 1918, Onondaga Camp has been an overnight camp for children ages 6-16 near Minden, Ontario, offering an inclusive environment for kids to play, explore, achieve, and grow. We hire staff on the basis of the soundness and maturity of their judgment, their commitment to being strong role models, and most importantly their ability to establish positive and caring relationships with their campers. Members of the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a drowning incident in Silver Lake Provincial Park.

On Saturday, August 16, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., OPP responded to a call for service for a swimmer that had gone missing after jumping out of a canoe into the water.

A 26-year-old male has been recovered and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The OPP Marine Unit, and the Tay Valley Fire Department assisted in the effort.

Yesterday around 9:30 a.m., Leeds County OPP responded to a drowning incident on Wolfe Island, where an unresponsive toddler was located in the St. Lawrence River near Stoney Point Lane.

Family members and first responders immediately initiated life-saving measures. The toddler was transported to a regional trauma centre and was later pronounced deceased.
