Golfers, sponsors and supporters gathered at the fifth annual Power of Hope Golf Tournament on Aug. 25 and raised an incredible $176,530 in support of prostate cancer care at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC), bringing the tournament’s five-year total to more than $741,000! 🏌️ 👏

The money is going to support KHSC’s Da Vinci surgical robot—a cutting edge, minimally invasive machine that uses smaller incisions and leads to shorter hospital stays, faster recovery and a quicker retuned return to normal activities.

is led by Mike Laframboise, a prostate cancer survivor, who underwent surgery at KHSC in 2019 using the Da Vinci surgical robot—a technology made possible through . 🏥

Last year, two remarkable projects at Kingston Health Sciences Centre received $25,000 each from the Elaine and Michael Davies Award for Innovation, driving breakthroughs in kidney transplantation and cancer care.

🧊 Dr. Tom Skinner has developed a revolutionary cooling jacket to keep donor kidneys cold longer during transplant surgery. This device reduces the rush to finish surgery, helping surgeons work precisely and improving transplant success rates by protecting the organ from warming damage.

💨 Meanwhile, Dr. Sebastián Rodríguez-Llamazares and Dr. Andrew Giles are transforming care for cancer patients with malignant pleural effusions. Their work to bring medical pleuroscopy to an outpatient setting will reduce wait times, spare hospital stays, and improve patient comfort—all while freeing up valuable OR resources.

Thanks to the generosity of Elaine and Michael Davies, these innovations are moving closer to improving patient outcomes and healthcare efficiency in our community.

This past weekend was the fourth annual Mending Hearts with Declyn Lemonade Stand, where the Carman family and their friends sell lemonade to raise funds for at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC). 🍋

This fundraiser is a labour of love, and is held to celebrate the memory of the Carman family's son, Declyn, who was born with atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD), a congenital heart defect, and sadly passed away at the age of three months on Janurary 3, 2022.

Over the past few years, the community has shown up to support their annual fundraiser, and this past weekend was no different. Countless neighbours shared smiles, laughs, and more all while taking time to remember Declyn. ❤️
