Free movement is one of the most important things for infant development. While there is absolutely no mom shaming coming from us here at Evergreen Health Collective for using containers- sometimes parents just need a MINUTE. However, excessive or prolonged use of containers such as swaddles, bouncers, swings, jolly jumpers and exersaucers can delay or inhibit integral neurological development.
If you have used containers for your infant or older kids, you haven't ruined them, don't worry! However, as a paediatric chiropractor I have noticed that those who come in with incoordination, frequent falls, and even inability to sit still or behaviour issues often had retained primitive reflexes. There is a wide variety of symptoms that can manifest from retained reflexes, many of them seemingly unrelated.
If you have concerns about your infant or older child's development, especially ones who may have had extended time in any containers, book them in for an evaluation where we will check in on reflexes and body sense to make sure they are on track with development and thriving in everything they enjoy!
