There is so much talk about regulating nervous systems but do we know what it ACTUALLY means?

A state of calm and peace 24/7 isn’t realistic and not really how humans were created. What a regulated nervous system actually means is that we return to our Ventral Vagal State in an appropriate amount of time. We can assess and respond to events, and feelings appropriately.

Basically stress, any kind of stress, enters our body, affects our systems and often behaviours - this is normal and appropriate! But how long do we stay in that stressed state? How regulated our nervous system is determines this and the goal of getting back to a place of calm.

Here’s the crappy news, your nervous system almost WANTS to stay stuck. Because it will always choose repetition over uncomfortable ‘new’. Despite our best intentions, one walk in the woods, or one yoga class isn’t going to be what it takes to transfer you into a regulated state!🩷

Give your nervous system some attention and connection.💫

Two years—can you believe it?! What started as a simple coffee shop chat turned into something so much more. Sarah joined us after a casual networking meet-up and ended up pursuing her dreams right alongside ours—becoming a key part of the Wellness Within vision. ☕

Since then, she’s brought her signature Rebel energy to everything she does (yes, we’re talking Gretchen Rubin’s Four Tendencies kind of Rebel—the one who resists both inner and outer expectations and chooses her own way forward). She even initially resisted that she was a rebel.

Sarah is always open to change, innovation, and the next new adventure. From stacking up trainings and certifications to trying out AI-assisted note-taking in sessions, she’s constantly evolving and always asking, “How can I show up better—for myself and for others?”

But she’s more than a trailblazer—Sarah’s also the quiet pulse of care in our group. She’s the one who checks in, leaves thoughtful messages, and creates moments of connection that linger long after the session ends. Her clients feel it. Our team feels it. And we’re all better for it.

Sarah is currently welcoming new clients who are ready to explore change in a grounded, creative, and honest way. If you’re someone who’s looking for something a little different—with someone who’s walking the walk right alongside you—Sarah might be just who you’ve been looking for. She even has a cozy sloth to snuggle with during sessions 🦥

We’re so proud of how far you’ve come, Sarah—and we can’t wait to see what your next chapter brings.

About Me

My name is Kyla Balderson and I am a Registered Social Worker within the College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers (OCSWSSW). I have been in practice for 6 years in various positions within the Kingston to Ottawa region. I have worked in various settings before starting my private practice including but not limited to; community health centres, outpatient hospital programs, crisis response teams, children’s mental health, family and children’s services, youth residential treatment programs, youth detention facilities, adult shelter programs, and post-secondary student support programs.

I work from an integrated psychotherapy format that includes various approaches/interventions; allowing me to be flexible to meet you where you are at and help you improve your quality of life. Some of the common interventions I use are Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing/Life Coach Interventions, Solution- Focused Brief Therapy and Strengths-Based/Client Centered Therapy.

I strive to provide a safe and confidential space with an empathetic and compassionate approach to support you in understanding yourself. I believe in the strengths of my clients and the importance of being heard, understood and supported. I provide supportive counselling as well as psychotherapy. As your therapist, I am dedicated to helping you recognize your areas of strengths and how to build on them. Through our time together, I will utilize the above interventions that apply specifically to you and your area of needs.

If you are interested in booking an appointment, please e-mail me to discuss further.
