February Spotlight to Sarah & Kelsey 🤎🎂

Sarah—our steady, soft-spoken couples guide and fierce mom advocate who somehow manages to hold space for everyone while also stocking her office like a snack bunker. You’ll find her gently resetting the coffee station at sunrise, quietly doing the clinic dishes (in the dark), or curled up for a quick recharge between sessions. Her stuffed sloth says it all — grounded, unhurried, peaceful. The calm she brings into the room (and our team) is something we cherish deeply. 🦥☕🍫

Kelsey—our trauma specialist with the coziest energy and a coffee cup never too far from reach. She has a way of helping people feel heard and truly cared for, all while continuing to expand her knowledge and deepen her skills. Outdoorsy, adventurous, and committed to work-life balance, she reminds us that healing can be both brave and grounded. 🌲📚☕

In a month that invites us to slow down and come back to what matters, we’re so grateful for the steady, nurturing presence you both bring to our clinic. Here’s to calm hearts, warm mugs, and meaningful work. 🦋

POV:
You romanticized your peaceful Friday wrap-up.

Hot tea.
Emails done.
Maybe leave early.

…..📞 Incoming call from school

Plot twist:
Motherhood said “not today.”

Thank goodness for our colleagues, the way we hold each other up (literally) 🤣, the way we laugh together, the way we collaborate, and all the ways we’re so lucky to connect

Therapy has come a long way! 🛋️

It’s not stiff couches, hushed voices, and someone silently scribbling while you spill your soul.

It’s light.
It’s laughter.
It’s tissues and nervous system education.
It’s sometimes swearing and always soft.
It’s often humorous and heartfelt.
It’s real humans sitting with real humans.

It’s therapists who aren’t perched above you,
but beside you.

Healing doesn’t have to feel clinical.
It can feel connected.
It can feel warm.
It can feel like exhaling. 🤍

Pause your Valentines Day scroll for a second — when was the last time you truly showed yourself love?

What does self-love mean to you? 🩷

We talk a lot about self-love in therapy, but it can look different for everyone — setting boundaries, resting without guilt, speaking kindly to yourself, or choosing what truly supports your wellbeing.

We’d love to hear your perspective. Tell us in the comments👇🦋

One of the most overlooked attachment teachers?
Our pets.

They offer consistent proximity.
Regulated presence.
Affection without evaluation.
They don’t care what you did or didn’t accomplish today.
They don’t care if you’re bloated.
They don’t care if you snapped at your partner.

For many of us, they are our first experience of love that doesn’t require performance.

And when we learn what that feels like,
it changes how we show up in every other relationship.

Unconditional love isn’t indulgent.
It’s regulating.

A trend we couldn’t pass up on 🤍

Every one of us was once a child learning how to navigate big feelings, relationships and the world around us.

Now we’re all
• teaching skills in ways brains can understand
• sitting without rushing
• listening beyond behaviours
• helping process what feels too big for words
• sharing our time, our space & our nervous systems

Of course credentials matter, but so does our humanity 🤍

Friendship love 🫂

The kind that holds you through seasons.

That laughs with you, grounds you, tells you the truth gently & stays.

Romantic love often gets the spotlight, but friendship love is where many of us feel most fully ourselves. Friends are the people who witness our becoming. They remind us who we are when we forget. They co-regulate our nervous systems, offer perspective, and make life feel shared rather than heavy.

These relationships don’t just “happen.”

They’re nourished through presence, honesty, repair, and time.

Through checking in. Making space. Choosing each other, again and again.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, let’s widen the definition of love.

Celebrate the friends who feel like home.

The ones who sit beside you and take in the view.

✨ Friends are often our soulmates—the loves that walk with us through life. ✨

Matrescence 🦋
The postpartum period is more than recovery—it’s a profound transformation.

This Matrescence Postpartum Group Art Therapy Workshop offers a gentle space to explore the emotional, identity, and relational shifts that come with becoming a mother. Together, we’ll reflect on the challenges of the postpartum season and introduce the art therapy process within a supportive group setting—where your experience is welcomed just as it is.

This workshop is an entry point into understanding matrescence: the ongoing transition into motherhood. Through creative expression and shared presence, you’re invited to make sense of what’s emerging, what’s changing, and what you may be carrying.

🖌 Workshop Includes:
• Free 15-minute virtual consultation
• 1 in-person Group Art Therapy Workshop (90 minutes)

🗓Workshop Date:
Monday, February 2 | 10:30am–12:00pm

For those who feel called to continue the journey, there will be an option to join the Matrescence Postpartum Group Art Therapy Series, beginning the following week on February 9, meeting at the same time. The series offers a deeper dive into your personal experiences through ongoing art therapy and individual reflection within a group container.

You don’t have to navigate this transition alone. This is a space to be seen, supported, and gently held as you find your footing in motherhood.

The Half-Charged Phone Theory 📱⚡
You wouldn’t leave the house with your phone at 12%. You know it won’t last the day — and it’s used for almost everything.
But somehow we’ve gotten used to running on 12% ourselves. Tired. Stretched. Disconnected. Still showing up. Still pushing through.
We protect our phones like they’re a lifeline…
So what if we treated our energy the same way?
Check it.
Charge it.
Protect it.
Running on low isn’t noble — it’s just unsustainable.

And guess what? Being human doesn’t require you to be at 100% all the time. 🦋

If you’re feeling drained, consider booking a Reiki session with Korinna to help restore your energy. 🙌 she is now in the office Mondays and Thursdays. Book directly online or through email.

About Me

My name is Kyla Balderson and I am a Registered Social Worker within the College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers (OCSWSSW). I have been in practice for 6 years in various positions within the Kingston to Ottawa region. I have worked in various settings before starting my private practice including but not limited to; community health centres, outpatient hospital programs, crisis response teams, children’s mental health, family and children’s services, youth residential treatment programs, youth detention facilities, adult shelter programs, and post-secondary student support programs.

I work from an integrated psychotherapy format that includes various approaches/interventions; allowing me to be flexible to meet you where you are at and help you improve your quality of life. Some of the common interventions I use are Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing/Life Coach Interventions, Solution- Focused Brief Therapy and Strengths-Based/Client Centered Therapy.

I strive to provide a safe and confidential space with an empathetic and compassionate approach to support you in understanding yourself. I believe in the strengths of my clients and the importance of being heard, understood and supported. I provide supportive counselling as well as psychotherapy. As your therapist, I am dedicated to helping you recognize your areas of strengths and how to build on them. Through our time together, I will utilize the above interventions that apply specifically to you and your area of needs.

If you are interested in booking an appointment, please e-mail me to discuss further.
