Elizabeth Brothers Health I help exhausted women
sleep better & enjoy life again, even if they have no time for themselves! Even if they have no time for themselves.

I help exhausted women sleep better to take control of their life, in just 10 weeks! As a working mom of two young boys, I know how hard it is to fit in all of the things you need to do in a day, and how you get put on the back burner. I have always been interested in how food and lifestyle impacts our overall health, but also how we feel every day. These interests took me to naturopathic school,

where I got to work with hundreds of people as a naturopathic doctor, focusing on exactly this. I realized that working with patients one-on-one as an ND meant I couldn't help as many people as I wanted. Focusing on my experience and expertise, I have built a program to help support exhausted women make lifestyle changes that will create sustainable habits to improve their sleep and energy. These changes not only let you create the life you want, but also implements healthier habits in your families, which will make sure your kids are healthier now, and into the future. I graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine in 2012. I completed my BSc at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS and my MSc in Developmental Biology at the University of Victoria.

Setting proper boundaries is something I’m not very good at.

But as I get older, it is something I’m becoming more aware of.

So, I guess that’s a start?

What on this list do I need to work on – letting go of what I can’t control, and being OK with my decisions not being understood.

How about you? Is there anything on this list you’d like to work on?

I’m pretty sure you never grew up aspiring to be an exhausted woman who doesn’t actually feel like they’re participating in their life.

BUT… here you are (WELCOME!)

Your expectation was a fulfilling job, a healthy relationship, happy kids.

But your reality is a job that leaves you less-than-fulfilled, scheduling in time to even have a conversation with your partner, and kids that require more energy than you currently have.

If the first describes you – amazing!

But if the second is more relatable – I promise that every single feeling you have about your current situation is valid and important.

Second, I want to know that this is a safe space to express anything you want to about this topic.

Third, any thought you have that “others have it worse”, or “I shouldn’t feel this way”, or “I should just be able to deal with this needs to be gently put to the side as we work together to get you from exhausted and burnout to energized and enjoying life.

Fourth, did you know your experience can also help someone else? The more you are able to be open and real, the more you help others.

So – can you do me a favour?

Post in the comments a word that describes how you feel now vs. how you want to feel in the future.

Anything you can think of!

What would your superpower be?

What was the superpower you wanted to have when you were a little kid?

I have this discussion with my kids sometimes. They can’t decide on which ones they would want.

But mine – teleportation. Being able to move myself (and anyone who is touching me so that I can take other people with me) to anywhere in the world in an instant.

Why do I want that superpower? I mean, it would be lovely to slip to Paris for the weekend! But truthfully, it would be so that I could easily see the people I love and miss who are spread out all over the place anytime I wanted.

What’s yours?

We all make mistakes (ain’t that the truth!), but here are the top 3 ones you should avoid if you’re finding that you’re tired all the time.

1. Not exercising. Often we’re too tired to exercise, which I totally get, but moving every day will actually help increase your energy. Especially if you do it consistently.

2. Drinking too much coffee. Yes, I know it can be the thing that gets you through the day, but too much caffeine actually hurts more than it helps. (Some coffee every day is fine). If you need a mid-day pick me up, try a glass of water and some fresh air. As delicious as coffee? No. As effective? You bet!

3. Sleeping in. Too tired to get out of bed? I totally get it. But if you’re normally exhausted, pick a time every day that you can get out of bed consistently, even if you’re still tired. This will actually help stabilize your sleep and improve your energy!

So before you go looking for a more complicated solution, start with the basics.

I don’t think I’m alone in this.

Many of us think that if we can just add one more “self-care” routine to our to-do list, we’ll finally get ahead of burnout and feel energized again.

I used to think that too.

Unfortunately, burnout is a bit more complicated than that.

You can do things you enjoy, don’t get me wrong. And they can help relax you and make you feel good.

But not addressing the whole person when it comes to exhaustion – what you’re eating, how you’re moving, how you’re thinking, what your emotional well being is like – means you’re not really going to budge the needle.

What is something you’d love to do, but exhaustion is keeping you from doing?

Before I answer this question, I realize that going back in time (I think I’d go back rather than forward) means that I’d likely be a lot less safe than I am in present day.

Taking that risk into consideration, there are a LOT of time periods I’d love to see – Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome, North America before colonization. But I would love to go be a member of court during Catherine the Great’s early reign of Russia (for a few days).

It doesn’t matter what your goals are, there are distinct characteristics that separate those who are more likely to be successful than those who are not.

• People who are willing to learn
• People who ask for help
• People who are solution focused
• People who try something new
• People who are committed to their goal no matter what vs those who depend on feeling motivated or inspired.

Some of these things are easier than others (I’m TERRIBLE at asking for help).

If you’re ready and open to new ideas and approaches to solving your exhaustion, give me a 👋 in the comments.

Do you ever just feel SO tired that you’re not sure how you’re going to make it through the day?

It’s incredibly common.

But not necessarily normal.

Most people who feel this level of exhaustion just think they need more sleep (probably true), or to have less on their plate (also probably true), or that they need help (definitely true).

Or maybe you feel like you need all of those.

Truthfully, if you had all of those things, you’d probably feel a lot less exhausted.
There are things that you can do to feel less exhausted (prioritize your sleep, eat well, move daily).

But you also need the social support that many of us are lacking.

I wish I had a quick fix for this, which I don’t.

But I just wanted you to know – you’re not alone.

As busy women, we definitely need more community support.

Understanding that it’s not my failure that makes me exhausted, but rather a function of the life that I’m kind of forced to live and keep up with kind of makes me feel better.

And I know that I need to put the supports in place when and where I can.

If you need support, let me know! I can help.

Before I go to bed I always plan out my next morning.

I make sure I’ve got breakfast planned (or ready if possible), the kids lunches started, and a plan for supper for the next night.

That might seem like a lot, but here’s the thing.

• It takes me max 30 minutes to do those things.
• It means that I can regularly eat the food I want to/like to. I don’t have to worry about needing to grab something on the go (unless that’s part of the plan) and I don’t have to worry about scrambling to fill the kids’ lunches the next day.
• It saves me tons of stress! It means my morning can be more relaxed, less stressed, and I’m not frantic when I head out the door.

What is one thing in your evening routine that you find really helpful to lower your stress?

Share below because someone else may find it helpful too!

If you are feeling lost, start here.

Too often we start with the difficult things before we have mastered the foundational things…

Then we lose our way, and all our efforts seem to have been for nothing.

If you feel like you are starting from square one…
If you are feeling a little lost and can’t quite get your bearings…

If your day or week took an unexpected turn and all your best laid plans for change have gone out the window…

Do this ONE thing…
Go to bed at the same time every night & get up at the same time every morning.

It may not feel like much… but never underestimate the power of this one simple action.

It will help to get your circadian rhythm in sync, will get your body predicting when it’s time for bed, and will help you fall asleep (and usually stay asleep).

(Oh and in case you have forgotten - perfection is not a thing we do here so just leave that behind…)

And just a reminder: This is not a race. This is about permanent change over time.

There will always be things that have the potential to derail your progress.

Soo control what you can and don’t worry about what you can’t…

And if you need to start small, start with this one thing.

I lived in Germany for awhile. I knew absolutely no German when I moved there.

It was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. It was very challenging, a lot of the time. But I learned so much about myself and about other people.

I think one of the most interesting things I learned while I was there was that Germany is not called Germany in the German language (it’s Deutschland, if you’re wondering). This may seem so simple and obvious, but to my not-at-all-worldly early-20s-self, it was a lesson in perspective that I just didn’t know.

Every single one of us has a different perspective on life. And those perspectives are very influenced by the world around us. This lesson has stayed with me since then.

What’s one big life lesson you remember learning?

My favorite breakfast smoothie is one thing I can’t live without…

It’s non-negotiable.

If you ask me to follow a food plan or routine or schedule that means I need to eat in a hurry or on the run most of the time,

I am out!

This may sound like a crazy non-negotiable to anyone else.

But this is something I love.

It’s delicious, it’s enjoyable, it’s satisfying, and I love the ritual of it.

Understanding this about myself helps me to avoid pitfalls and failures of programs that are too restrictive because I know that trying to eliminate the peanut butter or protein powder or bananas just leads to me being miserable…

Self-awareness and understanding your non-negotiables is a key to success in anything in life.

It doesn’t matter if nobody else understands its importance.

It could be the most random thing (like needing to watch the Real Housewives with your girlfriends)

Or enjoying Friday pizza nights with the family...

If it is a non-negotiable for your wellbeing then you need to prioritize it.

What are your non-negotiables?

How has your energy been lately? If you’re like most people I know, February isn’t overly energetic.

But I have some exciting news! I have a new course that I built just for you.

How to Overcome Exhaustion is a course that I’ve built to help women get your energy back on track, improve your sleep, increase your confidence, and feel good about yourself.

In the course you’ll find:
• The real reason women feel burnt out, and what you can do about it today
• How stress impacts your life and your sleep, and how you can help your body respond better to the stress of life (which isn’t going anywhere)
• A complete 4-week meal plan with recipes included
• How to incorporate the information covered in the course, even if you have no time for yourself

It’s available now, completely self-directed, and you can do it at your own pace.
You can find out more information, or register right here: http://bit.ly/3DvhttJ

Many women feel guilty about sleeping.

Yes it's true!

Not getting enough sleep has a huge impact on mood and burnout.

We live in a world where there are too many things to do, too many places to be, and not enough time in the day. And women tend to carry most of the burden.

This is important to understand because it’s easy to let the expectations get the better of you. And when you try to meet everyone’s expectations, you feel guilty for doing things that aren’t that. And taking care of yourself, including sleep, is one of the things that you’re doing for yourself, not for other people.

Hence the guilt.

But here’s the thing…

Sleep, movement, eating well – all of these things are necessary. They’re not “nice to have’s”. They’re essential.

I won’t sit here and tell you not to feel guilty, because that’s not how guilt works.

I will sit here and tell you that if you feel guilty about doing these things, you’re not alone.

And if you do feel guilty about sleeping, then just recognize that you feel guilty. And maybe think about what you’re feeling guilty for.

If you want to share – do you ever experience guilt around taking care of your needs?

When you have “one of those days”...

Healing burnout is not a linear event…

It’s not like you wake up one day and you NEVER have to deal with exhaustion and fatigue ever again…

This is important to remember when you feel like you have a breakthrough or several days or weeks where you’re feeling energetic and like burnout is completely in your past…

And then seemingly out-of-the-blue…

You feel like you are back at step one.

But this couldn’t be further from the truth…

Setbacks are a part of the process.

Having a setback doesn’t mean that you have done anything wrong or that your process or plan is not working...

It just means that you are having an off-day.

And one off-day or off-week does not need to turn into a permanent setback.

When I have an off-day I do two things

First, I offer myself grace and remind myself that perfectionism is not helpful in these situations.

Second, I step back and honestly evaluate the situation and any other circumstances…

Was I more tired than usual? Have I been sticking to my foundational habits? Was there something that could have contributed to the setback?

This helps me to take my eyes off the things I can’t control and put them back on the things that I can control… which helps me to reset and begin again.

If you are feeling like you are in the middle of a setback and your energy levels are starting to plummet… it’s OK to just sit with it for a bit.

But when you’re ready to start moving again, focus on one simple thing that you know you can do. That’s where I always start. Just one thing.

Is that a 15-minute walk? Is that drafting a meal plan for the week? You know best what it is you need. But pick the simplest thing possible.

Drop a YES in the comments if you’re experiencing a set back so I can connect with you.
