The quickest and surest way to stop a stress response in the body is by turning to the breath. This quote is a reminder of all of the beneficial qualities that come with the breath - indeed, it is a pharmacy that each of us has right within us, and its doors are always open to us if we remember that it’s there. 🫁🌬️
Here are just a few benefits that we can receive by simply deepening our breath:
✅Heartbeat slows
✅Mind quiets down
✅Blood pressure decreases
✅Parasympathetic response is activated
✅More oxygen is supplied to the blood stream
Taking a deep breath during a heightened moment of stress instantly creates a break between you and the stressor. I call that break a Pattern Interrupt, and the breath is the easiest way to start that process.
Before you start scrolling again - stop, close your eyes and take one long, slow deep breath with me - and exhale letting it go. Notice how in those few moments, you felt a shift, no matter how slight. Remind yourself to continue doing this throughout your day, and notice how nice it is to relax into the breath when the world is swirling around you.
