This year's National Nursing Week theme is already the daily reality across every care setting: 'The Power of Nurses to Transform Health'. Among many other things, nurses are the ones identifying stalled wounds, advocating for evidence-informed antimicrobial stewardship, and changing outcomes for even the most complex cases.

In celebration of International Nurses Day today (May 12), and our country's National Nursing Week this week, we're helping to call attention to a set of timely and informative events that the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA-AIIC) is hosting on the themes shaping the future of the nursing profession: Indigenous nursing leadership, politics and policy, early-career voices, specialized practice in wound, ostomy and continence care, and the evolving knowledge base of nursing itself.

We invite you to explore this week's full schedule and register here 👉 https://hubs.li/Q04gcQJk0

And if you cross paths with a nurse this week, whether it be at the bedside, in the community, or anywhere in between, take a moment to thank them and tell them how much their work matters to us all! ♥️

Happening this afternoon at the WCET-NSWOC 2026 Joint Congress in Vancouver. 👇

Today, Friday April 25th at 4:00 PM, Biomiq is sponsoring an engaging panel session called: "From Frontline to Bedside: Winning the War Within the Wound"

Anchoring the panel is Lt. Col. Dr. Roman Kuziv, Commander of Medical Forces & Sustainment Group East, Armed Forces of Ukraine — traveling directly from active wartime duty to share frontline lessons already reshaping how the world thinks about AMR and wound care.

Dr. Kuziv will be joined by:
🔹 Hailie Uren — Clinical Pharmacist & AMR Specialist (Australia)
🔹 Rhonda Darbyshire, RN, BN, NSWOC, WOCC(C), IIWCC (Canada)
🔹 Dr. Lori Robins, PhD — HOCl Chemist (USA)
🔹 Dr. Eric Rasmussen, MD, MDM, FACP (USA) - Moderator of the discussion

It's a rare international conversation on where wound care is heading, and the role NSWOCs and clinicians caring for wounds will play in getting us there.

This is a can't-miss conversation every trauma clinician should hear. 👀 ⬇️

Tomorrow morning at the Trauma Association of Canada Annual Conference (TAC 2026), Biomiq is presenting a panel discussion with an impressive lineup. It's called: "Trauma in the Age of Resistance: How Modern Conflict is Redefining Combat Casualty Care and Wound Management'.

Modern battlefields have changed wound care. Delayed evacuation, contaminated blast injuries, and multidrug-resistant organisms are forcing frontline teams to rethink infection control from the ground up. The lessons coming out of Ukraine are already reshaping civilian trauma practice.

Four impressive and diverse voices at one table:

🔹 Lt. Col. Dr. Roman Kuziv, MD, JD
Commander, Medical Forces & Sustainment Group East, Armed Forces of Ukraine. Surgeon, combat-baptized with the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade "Edelweiss", and a leading voice in military medical analytics.
🔹 Hailie Uren
Australian clinical pharmacist and consultant to Ukraine's Ministry of Health on antimicrobial resistance. Principal investigator on multi-phase AMR research in large-scale combat operations.
🔹 Dr. Eric Rasmussen, MD, MDM, FACP
CEO, Infinitum Humanitarian Systems. Former US Navy Fleet Surgeon (Third Fleet) and Joint Task Force Surgeon.
🔹 Dr. Jeff Williams, PhD, BVSc, MRCVS
Former Professor Emeritus of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Michigan State University. Foundational researcher on HOCl.

We're all told that screen time reduces how often and how completely we blink, but research also shows how quickly this starts to affect our eye health.

There are measurable impacts on tear film stability in as little as 20 minutes of concentrated screen time. For people living with (or concerned about) dry eye disease, that matters.

We reviewed the evidence on what actually helps: from structured blinking exercises to ocular hygiene solutions like hypochlorous acid (HOCl).

People who use drugs face a disproportionately high burden of acute and chronic wounds—and too often, care is complicated by delayed presentation, stigma, and structural barriers.

New Canadian guidance from Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Canada (NSWOCC®), the Harm Reduction Nurses Association (HRNA), and Ontario Network of People Who Use Drugs (ONPUD) offers a practical framework for wound clinicians working in hospitals, outreach, and community settings.

We pulled out some of the key takeaways that should be top of mind for clinicians when it comes to day-to-day wound assessment and topical planning, and are sharing them with you in our latest blog article.

Healing doesn't stop at the wound bed.

We know that the skin immediately surrounding a wound, i.e. the “periwound”, plays a decisive role in healing outcomes, comfort, and infection risk, yet it's often overlooked.

In our first educational blog article of the year, we’re breaking down the science and clinical relevance of pure hypochlorous acid in protecting this critical zone.

pH is the heartbeat of pure and stable hypochlorous acid (HOCl) solutions. But why is this?

When pH drifts too high or low, HOCl can lose its potency, stability, and safety profile. Balanced correctly, it remains one of the most effective and biocompatible antimicrobial solutions on the planet.

Ultimately, chemistry matters more than concentration, and pH is where the story begins.

Today we explore how it is that pH determines so much about HOCl solutions, and why healthcare professionals should see pH as a clinical term—not just a scientific one.

This past weekend, our Biomiq team had the privilege of exhibiting for our fifth time at the Wounds Canada National Conference. We enjoyed each and every conversation and opportunity to connect with clinicians from all levels of care across Canada — from acute and long-term care to home and community settings.

We had countless meaningful conversations on topics such as:
💧 How PureCleanse™ supports safe, effective wound cleansing and wound hygiene
💧 The role of PureCleanse™ Oral for safe, effective oral hygiene in care environments
💧 The unique benefits of PureGel™ for situations where extended delivery of HOCl is desired
đź’§ And broader discussions on advancing infection prevention and wound cleansing best practices

A huge thank you to Wounds Canada for hosting such an important event, and to every clinician who stopped by our booth to share insights, ask questions, and collaborate with us on improving patient care.

We'll see you at the next one! ✨ In the meantime, learn about Biomiq's advanced wound solutions here:
