Dr. Still, the founder of Osteopathy, did something unheard of when opening his new school in 1892: he decided to accept women and men equally, which was unimaginable at the time. His actions allowed women to thrive in Osteopathy, and today on International Women’s Day, we celebrate all of the incredible women working in the field.

This year's International Women’s Day theme is , and we all have a part to play in creating a gender equal world. Learn more about International Women's Day:

During your follow up treatments we will go over how your body responded to the previous treatment, the changes you noticed, and anything new that has come up.

Following this we will reassess your structure to see how your body has changed and then provide treatment based on the structural assessment!

🦠Your lymphatic system transports fluids throughout your body and consists of lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, lymphoid organs, and collecting ducts. (Picture #2)

🦴Your lymphatic fluid drains into two lymphatic ducts which empty into the venous system just beneath your clavicle to be recycled or excreted. (Picture #3)

🫁The right lymphatic duct collects lymph from only the right half of your head and neck, right arm, and right half of your thoracic cage. The rest of your body is drained by the thoracic duct! (Picture #4)

💪🏻Your lymphatic system relies on muscular contraction and changes in pressure to flow freely & this is where osteopathic treatment comes in!

✨Short/tight muscles and lack of movement in an area can hinder flow. Addressing your tissues to remove restrictions, increasing range of motion in joints and soft tissues, and utilizing rhythmic techniques during treatment can help your body’s systems work optimally!

Have you been wondering what an initial assessment and treatment involves?

Once you have booked your first appointment you will be emailed the health history intake form which you can fill out and sign electronically. It is important to disclose all of your medical history (yes - even an injury when you were 15 years old matters!).

During your first appointment we will discuss the following:
▫️Your health history and the reason(s) you are seeking treatment
▫️Explanation of what osteopathic treatment is and the goals of treatment
▫️What you can expect after your treatment
▫️Opportunities to ask questions and obtain your consent

Following this, the assessment and treatment begins!

For more information or to book your initial assessment go to www.lessardosteopathy.com

What is your body trying to tell you?

💥 Are you spending your day with back pain, headaches, numbness and tingling, digestive issues, chronic stress, and more?

🛑 These are just a few of the signs that your body is trying to tell you something isn’t right.

Sciatica is a general term for pain, numbness, tingling, and burning sensations along the pathway of the sciatic nerve as it travels down the back of your leg.

Many factors can contribute to the presentation of these symptoms such as:
▫️Muscles of your posterior line
▫️Anterior or posterior tilt of your innominate/pelvis
▫️Lumbar spine dysfunction
▫️Position of your sacrum placing tension or compression through the nerve itself and blood supply

These are just a few of the structures we would check during assessment. Osteopathy does not treat sciatica as a condition, however, we treat the body as a whole in order to find the root cause!

➡️ Swipe to see some of the anatomy we would be assessing and treating! Some anatomical structures have been removed for a clearer view.

Osteopathic treatments are unique to each individual and are generally 20-30 minutes in length.

Treatment is based on objective palpation of your tissues and the goal is to determine the true cause of your symptoms.

During the treatment I will assess for any asymmetries and motion restrictions in your body and then utilize osteopathic techniques and subtle manipulations to correct the dysfunction.

You may experience some discomfort during the treatment, however, the treatment should not be painful.

The goal overall is to get your body moving well and feeling better! ✨
