Teachers! Educators! Support Staff! YOU can improve the experiences and mental health of 2SLGBTQIA+ students.

When students were asked what they wanted their teachers to know about supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ people, this is what they said:

🧡 Do not make assumptions about sexuality or gender identities.
💛 Include 2SLGBTQIA+ people in classroom examples.
💚 Appreciate the importance of teacher support.
💙 Understand why silence is harmful.
💜 Use correct pronouns for them.

62% of 2SLGBTQ students reported feeling unsafe at school, compared to 11% of cisgender heterosexual students.*

Schools have the power to change this!

We invite you to use the resources available via the “Being an Affirming Adult” page on our website https://ok2bme.ca/being-an-affirming-adult/

Today is Sisters in Spirit Day, also recognized as the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+ People (MMIWG2S+).

It is a day to honour lives tragically taken, and families forever impacted. It is not only one of remembrance, but also a Call to Action to end systemic violence and uphold the safety, dignity, and rights of Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+ people.

2SLGBTQIA+ History Month begins today! Make sure to follow our stories as we celebrate throughout the month.

2SLGBTQIA+ History Month was first celebrated in October 1994 – over 30 years ago - when it was known as Le***an and Gay History Month. It was founded by Rodney Wilson, who was the first openly gay public school teacher in Missouri.

There is so much to learn about q***r history and 2SLGBTQIA+ History Month is the perfect time to honour, celebrate, and maybe even learn something new!

Orange Shirt Day is a time to honour the survivors of residential schools, and remember those who never returned home – and the impact that continues to this day.

Before colonization, Two-Spirit people were cherished and respected members of their communities on Turtle Island. The arrival of European settlers brought strict gender norms, and residential schools worked to erase these traditions — punishing gender and cultural expression, leaving deep trauma and disconnection.

Today, we remember. We learn. We reflect. And we act — to honour survivors and their families, uplift Two-Spirit voices, and support healing and justice.

It's Celebrate Bisexuality Day – also known as Bi Visibility Day. Today we raise bi awareness, challenge bisexual and biromantic erasure and celebrate the bi community.

Bisexual and biromantic folks often face discrimination from both straight folks and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Bisexual and biromantic folks are still bi regardless of the gender of their partner(s).

Let’s take a moment today to highlight and celebrate the B in 2SLGBTQIA+

Let's imagine and design a space that feels safe, welcoming, and truly ours!

We’ll talk about what we like (and don’t like) about the program space and come up with creative ideas to make it better. You’ll help shape a space that reflects who we are and what we need. Let's create a place where everyone feels like they belong!
