On Family Day, we celebrate the patients and families we serve, our dedicated team members and volunteers, and the community partners who together create our Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) family each and every day.

Through care, connection, and collaboration, we build a community that supports one another — because at WRHN, we are stronger together. 💕

Today is International Childhood Cancer Day. A day that can be heavy – a day many families know all too well. It's also the perfect day to celebrate someone who has dedicated her life to making that journey just a little bit lighter. 💛

Dr. Jodi Rosner has been named Pediatrician of the Season by the Pediatrics Section of the Ontario Medical Association (PSOMA). For 24 years, she's been transforming pediatric cancer care right here at Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN).

She leads our local POGO Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontariosatellite clinic, and through the Kitchener Kids with Cancer Run & Walk, she's raised an incredible $732,000+. Every dollar stays local, funding social workers who guide families through diagnosis, Child Life specialists and music therapists who ease the burden of treatment, and even our clinic's slushie machine – a small but mighty source of comfort during chemo.

"This location allowed me to continue my work with oncology patients while staying close to our family support network," Dr. Rosner shared.

Today, we honour every child facing cancer, every family walking this road, and every person like Dr. Rosner who refuses to let them walk it alone.

Today is Wear Red Canada, a day dedicated to raising awareness about women’s heart health across the country. ❤️

The team at Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) @ Queen’s Blvd. Cardiac Surgery Unit (3 West) is proudly wearing red in support of Heart Month and this important cause.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women worldwide and the leading cause of premature death among Canadian women.

The good news is that 80% of risk factors are within your control. Heart disease is largely preventable. You can reduce your risk by:

✔️ Being physically active
✔️ Eating a variety of healthy foods
✔️ Limiting highly processed foods
✔️ Not smoking
✔️ Getting proper sleep
✔️ Managing stress

Did you know WRHN has a PREVENT Clinic powered by Manulife that supports patients who have a higher chance of heart disease? Learn more here: https://www.wrhn.ca/healthcare-services/cardiac

It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the heartbreaking tragedy in Tumbler Ridge, BC. The loss of life at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School is devastating, and our hearts ache for every person affected. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the entire community as they navigate this unimaginable grief.

In recognition of this event and in solidarity with all those affected, flags at our sites - Chicopee, Queen's Blvd., and Midtown have been lowered and will remain lowered for seven days, as a mark of our collective respect and mourning. 🤍

Waterloo Regional Health Network - WRHN is proud to have contributed to Canadian Cancer Society CHALLENGE clinical trial.

Since 2009, WRHN Cancer Centre has supported 33 local cancer patients in participating in groundbreaking research. The study included 889 patients across 55 clinical sites and found that integrating exercise into survivorship care significantly improves patient outcomes.

WRHN's involvement was made possible through our partnership with the University of Waterloo's Centre for Community, Clinical and Applied Research Excellence (CCCARE) and the UW WELL-FIT program. This collaboration provided patients with supervised, evidence-based exercise programs tailored to cancer recovery.

We shared this news last year, and it continues to inspire us. We're deeply grateful to everyone who played a part in improving care and outcomes for cancer patients - both here at home and around the world.

Do you know where to go when it comes to Urgent Care vs. the Emergency Department? Here’s how to choose 👇

• Urgent Care is a good option for health concerns that need prompt attention but are not life-threatening, especially if you do not have a primary care provider. Examples include fevers, sore throats, sprains, minor cuts, or rashes. When appropriate, you can also consult a pharmacist, who can assess certain conditions and prescribe medications.

• The Emergency Department is for serious or potentially life-threatening concerns. Chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke symptoms, major injuries, severe allergic reactions, or anything that feels truly alarming and should be seen right away.

Knowing where to go helps you get the right care at the right time and supports our entire healthcare system.
