What if “I want to go home” really means “I don’t feel safe”?
The words may sound simple, but the need underneath can be deep. For someone living with dementia, this phrase often reflects a search for comfort, security, and familiarity—things the disease slowly takes away. Trying to correct the statement rarely brings relief. Responding to the emotion behind it often does.
When you offer reassurance, presence, and calm—rather than explanations—you can ease distress and help your loved one feel grounded again.
Learn what this common phrase may truly be communicating and how to respond in ways that soothe and support. Read the blog, and reach out if your family could use extra help at home at warmembrace.ca

Responses that feel “logical” can unintentionally make things worse.

Saying “But you’re already home!” or trying to prove it with house numbers or photos often leads to frustration and confrontation. Dementia changes how the brain processes reality, so facts and evidence may feel confusing or even threatening in the moment. What helps more than logic is reassurance, emotional connection, and a calm presence.
If you’re hearing repeated “take me home” requests, there is a more effective approach. Learn what truly helps in our blog—and reach out to Warm Embrace for dementia‑informed companionship and routine support.

“But She Is Home…”
It’s one of the most heartbreaking moments in dementia care — hearing your parent ask to go home while standing in the very place they’ve lived for decades.
When someone with dementia says this, it can feel confusing, frustrating, and deeply emotional.
And no — it’s not because you’re doing something wrong.
This question is often a signal of something deeper than a location.
Learn what this question really means — and how to respond with compassion — in our latest blog at warmembrace.ca

Parkinson's Awareness Month!
Parkinson’s is more than a tremor — it affects movement, balance, energy, and daily routines.
April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, a time to recognize the many ways this condition impacts not only the person diagnosed, but the families who support them. [parkinson.ca]
A few things that can make everyday life easier for someone living with Parkinson’s:
• Consistent routines to support mobility and confidence
• Staying active with safe, appropriate movement
• Extra support with daily tasks like meals, personal care, or outings
• Patience and connection, especially on harder days
Support doesn’t have to mean doing everything — sometimes it’s about having someone alongside you.

At Warm Embrace, we support families with dignified, non‑medical care that meets people where they are — at home and in the community.
Sharing awareness starts with understanding!

Caring Without Correcting
Dementia care isn’t about winning the facts or proving what’s true—it’s about protecting dignity and lowering distress. When the brain can no longer process reality the way it once did, correction and debate often lead to frustration, fear, or shutdown. In those moments, insisting on logic can unintentionally create more distance instead of comfort.
What does help is responding to the emotional need underneath the words. Fear, confusion, sadness, and insecurity are very real experiences for someone living with dementia. When we acknowledge those feelings and offer reassurance, we create the calm and safety they’re often asking for—sometimes without knowing how to say it. A gentle tone, validating words, and a steady presence can communicate far more than facts ever could.
Supporting someone with dementia isn’t about agreeing with every statement—it’s about meeting them where they are and helping them feel safe, seen, and respected in that moment. This shift can ease tension, strengthen trust, and make caregiving feel more humane for everyone involved.
Read the blog to learn more about compassionate, dementia‑informed responses. Share it with a fellow caregiver who may need encouragement. Connect with Warm Embrace if you’re looking for gentle, consistent companionship support for your loved one.

If you’re the person doing most of the caregiving — this isn’t a failure.
Family caregiving is loving and meaningful.
But love alone doesn’t make it sustainable.
Many adult children step into care believing they should be able to handle everything — until the emotional, physical, and family strain becomes overwhelming.
Needing support doesn’t mean you care less.
It means you’re being honest about reality.
You’re not alone — and you don’t have to do this by yourself.
Let us help you! Contact us today at warmembrace.ca

“My husband was diagnosed, at age 55, with early-onset Alzheimer Disease. I found myself in the position of working full-time and dealing with an increasing workload at home due to my husband's declining condition. A friend gave me some literature from Warm Embrace, and I nearly ate the paper, I was so hungry for the services they offered!

I was impressed by the care and attention given, by Warm Embrace, to matching caregivers with my husband's personality and interests. My husband's face would light up when each of them came and he was always happy to go on outings. Staff involved my husband in chores, so he could still feel like he was contributing to the household, which was very important to him. It was lovely to be able to have someone else do such chores for me.

It is a privilege to endorse the services of Chloe at Warm Embrace. I was always able to receive a prompt response, and I always felt listened to and cared for. Having a supportive caregiving company as a resource is gold indeed.”
