💆‍♀️ Let’s Talk Hair & Massage: Little Things That Make a Big Difference

We’ve seen every style walk through our doors—and while they all look amazing, some can make your massage a little less comfy (and a little trickier for your therapist!).

Here’s what tends to get in the way:

✨ Braids or twists – Beautiful, but can tilt your head or keep it from resting flat

✨ Claw clips or big barrettes – These can press into your scalp or poke our arms during treatment

✨ High ponytails or tight low buns – Can feel like laying on a walnut 🥴

✨ Short hair that can’t be tied back – Best to leave it natural (and expect a little lotion in your hairline—it’s part of the glow ✨)

Best option? Hair down!
We’ll gently move it aside as needed—your massage therapist might even channel their inner stylist for a minute 😉💇‍♀️

Tips for the best experience:

🔹 Skip the clips, go for soft styles

🔹 Communicate—if something’s uncomfortable, tell us!

🔹 Bring a brush or hat for post-massage hair if needed

Let’s keep things comfy, relaxed, and knot-free—from head to toe 💆‍♀️

Celebrating 7 Years in Business 💐

This June marks 7 years since I started this journey—and what a journey it’s been.

For some reason, I’ve always had a thing for celebrating 7s.

It started as a tradition with my nieces—sending them flowers on their 7th birthdays—and it’s become something I hold dear. So, today I’m sending a big virtual bouquet to everyone who’s been with me on this path.

To my incredible clients, thank you for trusting me with your care.
To my team, thank you for your dedication and support.
To the fellow professionals I’ve connected with online—your shared wisdom, time, and encouragement have been invaluable. I truly couldn’t have done this without you.

This journey has taught me more than I could have imagined—especially about resilience and perseverance. There have been ups and downs (as there always are), but through it all, one thing remains: I started.

Recently, I had a Zoom call with three of my family members, all entrepreneurs, all parents. I told them that running a business is like raising a child—it takes a village. And I’m so grateful for mine.

And to anyone out there thinking of starting something of your own—take the leap. It won’t be easy, but:

“Nothing worth having comes easy.”-Theodore Roosevelt

Here’s to 7 years of growth, learning, and community—and to whatever comes next. 💛

Let’s Talk Body Awareness: Proprioception 🧠 💪

Ever walk through a dark room and instinctively duck—even though you couldn’t see the object?
Or catch yourself from falling without even thinking about it?

That’s proprioception at work.

👉 Proprioception is your body’s ability to sense its position, movement, and effort—without
needing to look.

It’s how you know where your limbs are, how much pressure you’re applying, and how to move
without constantly watching yourself.

It’s essential for coordination, posture, balance, and injury prevention.

As a massage therapist, I see proprioception in action (and sometimes dysfunction) all the time.

🛏 For example: when clients lie on the table, I might gently ask them to adjust their position—
to bring their head to center, or align their hips evenly.
And more often than not, they’ll say something like:
“That feels crooked!”

But in reality, their body is finally aligned. What they’re feeling is unfamiliar, not incorrect.

That disconnect between what the body feels and what’s actually happening is a clear sign that
the body’s proprioceptive system may be out of tune—often from chronic tension, injury, or
simply years of compensating for discomfort.

The good news? Body awareness can be retrained.
With hands-on therapy, intentional movement, and regular check-ins, we can improve
proprioception—and that often leads to better posture, fewer injuries, and a deeper connection to
your body.

☀️SUN’S OUT – SPF ON!☀️

(and yes, we finally mean it, Ontario. We weren’t sure summer was going to show up with all that rain... but here we are!)

Now that the sun is here, it’s time for our friendly seasonal PSA:

If you’re sunburnt, it’s best to reschedule your massage.

We love that you’re soaking up the sun, but sunburn = damaged skin, and damaged skin is contraindicated for massage.

Why? Because:

🚫 Sunburns cause inflammation and compromise the skin barrier

🚫 Massage can increase pain, worsen inflammation, and delay healing

🚫 Even light pressure may irritate or damage the already fragile tissue

According to the Journal of Manual & Manipulative Therapy, massage is not recommended on inflamed or broken skin, including sunburns, because it can exacerbate tissue damage and discomfort.š

So, wear your sunscreen (seriously — reapply! 😎), and if you accidentally roast yourself during Ontario’s 3.5 days of real summer, please cancel or reschedule your appointment.

We’ll be happy to see you once your skin is healed and ready for care. 💆‍♀️🌿

✨ P.S. Looking for a gentle, effective, all-natural option? We carry Yamaya’s Sun Kissed Sunblock right here at the clinic — perfect for protecting your skin without any harsh ingredients. 🌞

Inflamed or damaged skin, including sunburn, is a contraindication for massage due to risk of aggravation and delayed healing.

🧠 BALANCE & MOBILITY: A KEY PART OF HEALTHY AGING 🦵

As we get older, balance becomes a critical part of staying independent and injury-free.

Being able to stand up from a chair without assistance, or walk up and down stairs with minimal support, might seem like small things — but they’re important indicators of strength, coordination, and confidence in your body.

👉 The truth is, falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older adults, and something like a hip fracturecan have a serious impact on long-term health and mobility.

The good news? Balance and strength can be maintained and even improved — at any age.

At our clinic, we work with clients to support joint health, improve body awareness, and address any restrictions that might affect their stability and movement.

Whether you’re noticing early signs of imbalance or want to take preventative steps, we’re here to help.

✅ Move confidently
✅ Stay independent
✅ Prevent avoidable injuries

Let’s keep you moving well — for life. 💛
