EXERCISE IMPROVES BALANCE AND REDUCES FALL-RELATED INJURIES. A recent study has shown that exercise is an intervention for fall prevention.
A systematic review of randomized controlled trials summarized the effects of community-based exercise interventions on functional ability. The authors found that lower extremity strengthening exercises improved balance outcomes and mobility. They also found that balance exercises reduced fall injuries, improved dynamic and reactive balance, and improved mobility.
WFC Public Health Committee Chair, Dr Claire Johnson, commented, “Chiropractors play an important role in keeping their patients physically active and encouraging exercise. This study supports one of many reasons why chiropractic patients should be encouraged to exercise and remain active.”
