Spotlight Saturday looks a little different this week! We gratefully accept donations of auctionable items for our upcoming fundraising events, with all proceeds going directly toward bringing healthcare closer to home.
A heartfelt thank you to Terry & Terry Helary for their generous donation of multiple pieces of local art and history collected during their travels. We’re excited to showcase these pieces at future events, where they will be available for auction.
La Ronge has always been home for Terry and Terry, where they raised their three children, Meaghan, Mitchell, and Nicole. Mrs. Terry Helary (née Allen) is the daughter of the late Don & Ida Allen and was born and raised in La Ronge.
“During many years of travel and adventures, we acquired unique items and artwork. Donating these pieces to support fundraising for the new Long-Term Care facility felt like the best way to give back and share them with our community.”
One especially meaningful piece, “The Way Life Was,” was created by Lyle Allen, the oldest child of the late Don & Ida Allen. Ida Allen (née Charles) grew up on Kitsaki Island (Dominion Island) before families were relocated to the mainland. The painting was inspired by stories shared by Lyle’s late Uncle William (Japanary) Charles on how they would set up their fish nets to catch ptarmigans for food during the winter. The Anglican Church in La Ronge, still standing today, is featured in the artwork.
“The Way Life Was” hung in Robertsons Trading Co. for many years. This piece is being gifted permanently to the new Long-Term Care Home and will not be auctioned, though prints are currently being made.
Thank you, Terry & Terry, for your support and generosity. We are very proud to have you as partners in our journey to bring healthcare closer to home!
