Truth and Reconciliation is not just about remembering the harms of residential schools and colonial history. It is about creating safe spaces where men can speak openly, heal, and build stronger communities. This session will focus on men’s mental health, the impact of intergenerational trauma, and how we can move forward together with respect and accountability.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
September 30 is a day to remember the children who never made it home, and to honor the survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities.
This day is not only about reflection, but about action; listening, learning, and walking together toward healing and change.
🧡 Every Child Matters.

The Pipeline Costing Billions
Canada faces a pipeline that is not made of steel. It is the child welfare to prison pipeline. It is costing taxpayers billions.
In our work, both inside correctional centres and here in the community, we have heard the same story again and again. Most inmates either grew up without a father or were apprehended and placed into foster care.
One young man told us that moving through group homes and foster placements felt like a “training ground” for prison. He said it prepared him for incarceration instead of preparing him for life.
This is not healing. This is not justice. This is a system training boys for failure when what they need is guidance, mentorship, and hope.
It is time to break the pipeline.
The Residential school system is a dark chapter in Canadian history and Indigenous leaders and allies warn that many destructive policies still live on today...

Men of the North hosted a powerful workshop on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. After an evening of honest conversation and connection, participants gathered around the 360 Video Photo Booth to celebrate the moment.
These images are more than just photos—they are proof of trust being built, barriers being broken, and healing taking place. When men come together in a safe space, change happens. This is what growth looks like. This is what healing looks like. This is Men of the North.
We thank our partners, Victoria Laliberte Memorial Health Centre and the Cumberland House community, for walking alongside us and making this workshop possible. Empowering Men. Transforming Lives.
How do you build trust and healing in your own community?

Honored and Proud: Cumberland House Expansion
We are honored and proud to announce the successful completion of our 10 day training program, marking the expansion of our second branch in the Cumberland House community.
As part of this collaboration, Men of the North has gifted the community a grandfather traditional powwow drum. This drum will serve as a sacred tool for healing, connection, and ceremony.
We thank our partners, the Victoria Memorial Health Centre and the Cumberland House Prevention Department, for their strong partnership and commitment to this vision.
The drum will be kept by Terry John and his family. Anyone wishing to learn or practice may contact Terry John at the Victoria Memorial Health Centre.
This milestone is more than an expansion. It is a commitment to men’s wellness, culture, and unity.

Congratulations Terry John, Chad Budd, and Kristen McKay 🎉
Today we celebrate the successful completion of the Men of the North Training Program. Over two weeks of learning, reflection, and practical experience, these men have stepped forward as leaders ready to carry this work into the community of Cumberland House.
This isn’t just a certificate, it’s a commitment to walk with our men through struggle, healing, and growth. With ongoing support, Terry, Chad, and Kristen will help Men of the North flourish right here in Cumberland House Cree Nation
💬 Terry John:
“For a long time, men were told to stay quiet about what we go through. But holding it in only hurts us more. This training showed me that real strength is speaking up, listening to each other, and standing together. None of us have to carry the weight alone anymore.”
Men of the North is here to empower, support, and transform lives. The work has only begun.
👉 You are not alone. Together, we rise.

MOTN - Cumberland House Community Workshop
📅 Tonight, September 24
⏰ 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM
📍 Victoria Laliberte Memorial Health Centre
We are hosting our first in-community workshop tonight. This is an introduction to who we are at Men of the North (MOTN) and how we walk alongside men and families to support mental health and wellness.
Lead Facilitator: Terry John
For too long, men have been told not to talk about mental health, not to ask for help, and to carry struggles alone. MOTN is here to change that.
We believe no one should walk this path alone. We are here to support, listen, and build strength together.
Come join us tonight. Learn what MOTN is about. See where things are at. Find out how we can help.
You are not alone.

🌿 Hunting Camp – Building Stronger Bonds 🌿
Today we spent time out on the land, not just to hunt, but to connect.
Workshops, and shared stories reminded us that healing and growth happen when we come together as men, fathers, sons, and community.
The young ones stood proud today, learning from their fathers, uncles, and mentors. These moments matter, they build resilience, identity, and belonging.
At Men of the North, we believe that when we invest in our men and youth, we invest in the strength of our entire community.
📸 Proud moments from today’s camp.

The worst feeling in the world is the feeling of being alone.
Today and during most of my up bringing, I have suffered with depression and anxiety. That’s over 23 years I’ve been fighting with this mental illness. But just like so many of us, the stigma surrounding mental illness forced me to keep silent and in denial about my condition, making things worse. Depression impacted every aspect of my life. Often at times I felt alone and isolated, and I would lay in bed all day cut myself off from the outside world and just sit alone worrying about the things I had no control over: relationship, family, finances, employment, even just the thought of what people might be saying about me. Time and time again I would just drink the pain away. Only to experience thoughts of su***de waking up the next day; this was the hardest because I was at my lowest, I lost hope.
Accepting my family’s loving support and connecting with other people is why I started the MEN OF THE NORTH. The example of others taking on similar challenges gave me the hope and strength I needed to keep going.
Right from the first meeting I was in awe and inspired by the great courage and strength from the gentlemen of our community. Their ability to come sit at the table and share the things us men are not supposed to talk about. I realized that too many gentlemen like myself continue to suffer in silence. I started this organization to let people know that there is hope.
I created MEN OF THE NORTH, not for fame or fortune, but to help men just like me achieve recovery and wellness. Men of the North is a people-driven platform and will eventually branch out to the women and to youth of our community, but first we will build a solid foundation with the men first. MEN OF THE NORTH allows gentlemen living with or supporting someone with mental illness, substance use, or stressful life event to find, share, support, connect and inspire each other- to give and receive support and hope. We are building leadership, friendship, growth, trust but most importantly we are building bridges over these gaps. Letting the men of our community know that you are not alone.
