This National Palliative Care Week, we want to take a moment to recognize the people and programs in our community who walk alongside individuals and families during life’s most tender times.

Whether it’s in hospitals, care centres, or in homes, thank you for showing up with compassion, presence, and care when it matters most.

Palliative care is about honouring the whole person, and we’re proud to be part of a community that continues to make that possible.

The Benefits of a Funeral Home Owning Its Own Crematorium

Choosing a funeral home that operates its own crematorium offers significant advantages, ensuring the highest level of care, security, and efficiency for your loved one’s final arrangements.

1. Continuous, Compassionate Care – From the moment your loved one is placed in our care, they remain with us throughout the entire process. Unlike funeral homes that outsource cremation to third-party facilities, we personally oversee every step, providing peace of mind to families who want to know exactly where their loved one is at all times.

2. Strict Quality Control & Security – By managing our own crematory, we maintain strict protocols to ensure the dignified handling of every individual. This minimizes the risk of misidentification, mix-ups, or any errors that can occur when using an external provider. Our dedicated professionals adhere to rigorous standards, ensuring the process is handled with integrity and respect.

3. Faster, More Flexible Scheduling – Since we are not dependent on an outside crematory’s schedule, we have complete control over when the cremation takes place. This allows us to accommodate the specific wishes of the family and offer a more timely service, helping to bring closure without unnecessary delays.

4. Personalized and Transparent Process – Families who wish to witness or be involved in any aspect of the cremation process can do so with greater ease when everything takes place within our facility. We welcome families who desire this level of transparency and reassurance.

By choosing a funeral home that operates its own crematorium, you ensure that your loved one is treated with the highest level of dignity, care, and professionalism from beginning to end.

Unfortunately we are seeing fewer members at our meetings and at our next meeting we are going to be evaluating membership numbers and where our society is heading. There will be a vote at our January meeting on January 14th, 2025 at 4:00pm.

We are desperately looking for new members that are willing to be active participants.

Being a volunteer with the Lacombe Palliative Care Society involves attending quarterly meetings to assist with voting and events to better assist our palliative community. As of now we do not volunteer at bedside but we have the resources to share of other organizations that do.

We are looking for new members in our executive team as well starting in March of 2025. Please reach out if you have an questions or would like some more information about the society. We are available through phone, text, email and messenger.

Please take a minute to fill out the survey on our website about the society and what services may be more needed.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Elle Dell
Funeral Director & Embalmer

Elle was born in Eckville and graduated from David Thompson High School. She raised her two daughters on the same farm she grew up on in the Gimlet area. She has done numerous jobs while she raised her family.

Elle found her passion in funeral service, and in 2014 started attending Canadian College of Funeral Service and apprenticing at Parkland Funeral Home in Red Deer. In 2022 Elle’s passion for funeral service brought her to make a move to North Battleford, Saskatchewan where she had the opportunity to work at Eternal Memories Funeral Service.

Elle has moved home to be closer to family and her precious granddaughter. She is looking forward to the new challenges and to work in the area she calls home.

As the harvest season intensifies, our farmers are out on the roads, operating large machinery to gather the crops that feed us all. These hardworking individuals often endure long, exhausting hours to ensure our tables are full. At Wilson's Funeral Chapel, we urge everyone to prioritize safety on the road during this critical time. When you encounter farm equipment, remember to slow down, be patient, and pass only when it's absolutely safe. Your caution can save lives—ensuring that our dedicated farmers can continue their essential work and return home to their families safely each day.
