➡️ Stretching Variations

▪Dynamic Stretching ▪ involves moving a joint and/or muscles in a smooth controlled fashion through their range of motion.

For example, arm circles, butt kicks, or high knees.

Dynamic stretches are often included as part of a warm up.

🧘‍♀️ Did you know there is more than one way to stretch? 🧘

▪Static Stretching ▪ involves moving the target muscle into it’s elongated (stretched) state and holding that position for a sustained period of time.

It is often best to do static stretches at the end of your workout when your muscles are warm and limber.

▪ Stay comfy while you stay connected 📲
📱
Reminder to keep your texting ( or scrolling 🧐) posture in check: elbows relaxed at your sides, wrists neutral (not bent!), and phone lifted to eye level so your upper body stays tall. Small tweaks = big relief!

▪ The SHOULDER ▪ Pt.3

The main four muscle supporting the glenohumeral joint are the Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, and Subscapularis. Together they are also known as the ROTATOR CUFF.

The Supraspinatus lifts and rotates the arm up and away from the body (also known as abduction).

The Infraspinatus and Teres Minor rotate the arm away from the body (also known as external rotation).

The Subscapularis rotates the arm toward the body (also known as internal rotation.)

💪
These muscles of the rotator cuff aren’t very large but they are responsible for stability and mobility of the shoulder.
Rotator Cuff muscles can be prone to tearing, which is why strengthening them is incredibly important!

▪ The SHOULDER ▪ Pt.2

💪
The shoulder has three bone to bone joints and one “false” joint or "floating" joint.

▪ The Sternoclavicular (SC) Joint - where the sternum meets the clavicle (collarbone).

▪ The Acromioclavicular (AC) Joint - where the clavicle meets the acromion process of the scapula (shoulder blade).

▪ The Glenohumeral Joint - a ball and socket joint where the humerus (upper arm bone) meets the scapula.

▪ And finally, the Scapulothoracic Joint, which isn’t a traditional joint where two bones meet along with cartilage and ligaments. Instead this “joint” is an articulation point where the scapula glides over the rib cage (thorax). It is stabilized by muscles and is integral to the function of the shoulder.

▪ The SHOULDER ▪

Did you know your shoulder only consists of 3 bones?

The scapula (your shoulder blade), the clavicle (your collarbone), and the humerus (your upper arm bone).

Such a simple structure, with only 4 joints, that requires a team of ligaments, tendons and muscles to support its extensive range of motion.

The shoulder is also the most common joint for dislocations in the human body!

Arthritis management is not a "one size fits all".
Some of the following things have been shown to contribute to reduced inflammation, which in turn can support a reduction in OA symptom severity.

🥗 Nutrition - Mediterranean diet
🏋️‍♀️ Exercise - cardiovascular activity as well as strengthening with a focus on alignment
💊 Medications, supplements - omega 3's, vitamin D, tumeric
*speak with your physician, pharmacist, or nurse practitioner
🧘‍♂️ Lifestyle - stress reduction (which can play a role in inflammation)
