🎃 Community Spotlight: Fighting Food Insecurity Together 🥫

At our most recent Board meeting, The Big Shop of Horrors was honoured to welcome Henry Wikkerink, Executive Director of the Cowichan Valley Basket Society. Henry shared powerful insights into the vital work the food bank does—not just feeding those in need, but creating a safe, welcoming space where vulnerable members of our community can connect and be heard. 💙

The need is growing. Last month alone, the Society served over 5,000 meals in their soup kitchen and distributed 686 hampers. These numbers are the highest they’ve ever seen—and a stark reminder that food insecurity is real and scary.

Since day one, The Big Shop of Horrors has been committed to supporting our local food banks. This year is no exception. 💀❤️

We have more great news! Mizu Real Fruit Ice Cream will be down at Transfer Beach more often than we originally planned!

And the really great news? They will now be offering a variety of coffee drinks, including drip coffee, espressos, lattes, and affogatos! ☕

UPDATED SCHEDULE (Starting October 1st):

Wednesday-Friday from 2PM to 7PM
Saturday & Sunday from 11AM-7PM

Please note: Mizu's will not be at the beach on September 27th or October 18th.

Meet our Marina and Resort Manager, Wayne!

As the Marina and Resort Manager, Wayne is the captain of all things within our property. He leads the team, while making sure the Resort runs ship shape.

- Years of experience: 40+ years in management, the marine industry, and sailing
- Interesting fact: Wayne has sailed over 25,000 offshore miles
- Favourite place to travel by boat: Locally Princess Louisa Inlet; offshore Pacific coastal Mexico
- Favourite dish : Fisherman’s Chowder
- Favourite part of the job: Making guests happy!

Transfer Beach Food Truck Concession Update!🍨

Mizu Real Fruit Ice Cream will tend to all your ice cream needs down at Transfer Beach on weekends from September 21st until November (exact end date to be announced!).

Please note that on September 27th and 28th Mizu will be at the beach from 3PM-7PM instead of the regular 11AM-7PM.

Thank you to the Town of Ladysmith for supporting this initiative and helping us extend the concession into the fall!🍂

We are actively looking for more food trucks to participate in our fall extension. If you're interested, or you know someone who might be, please reach out to Roberta at roberta@ladysmithcofc.com to discuss the opportunity.
