Why we suppress or repress. We don’t do this because we’re broken. We do it because, at some point, it helped us survive.
As children, we learn which emotions are welcomed and which are not.If anger led to conflict, sadness led to withdrawal, or needs led to rejection, the nervous system adapted.
Suppression becomes a skill. Repression becomes a protection.

Over time, these strategies can start to cost us. What once kept us safe may show up later as anxiety, emotional numbness, people-pleasing, burnout, or a sense of disconnection from ourselves.

Healing isn’t one-size-fits-all — it’s relational. The connection you have with your therapist can be just as important as the approach or techniques they use.
When you feel safe, understood, and seen, your nervous system can finally exhale. That’s when the real work begins — not because you’re being “fixed,” but because you’re being met. 💛
If therapy hasn’t felt right before, it doesn’t mean it can’t work — it just means you haven’t found your fit yet. Keep looking for the person who helps you feel safe enough to grow.

Movies often paint a very narrow picture of what counselling looks like—stiff couches, awkward silences, or overly dramatic breakthroughs. But real therapy isn’t like that. It’s a conversation, a connection, and when you find the right therapist, it can feel completely natural.

The right fit changes everything. It’s not about someone “fixing” you—it’s about building a relationship based on trust, honesty, and support. It can be warm, even funny, and deeply healing. For many, it becomes a safe space to grow, reflect, and feel truly heard.

We also want to acknowledge that today can be painful for many. If you have experienced loss, faced infertility, gone through miscarriage, or are navigating motherhood in any of its complex forms—please know that we see you. You are not alone in your grief, your longing, or your silent strength.

Attuning to someone is crucial in relationships. It’s also important to recognize that we can not only emotionally attune to others but logically attune to them as well. It’s common to misunderstand one another in relationships. Even though you might be trying your hardest to “fix” or offer solutions and think you’re being a good listener, you might not actually be attuning to the other person. Perhaps the person you are trying to help just needs you to emotionally attune to them and not logically respond. At other times, if they are stressed and you try to emotionally attune by acknowledging how difficult it must be, they may not respond well because they just need a solution and could become frustrated with you. In counseling, you can learn these skills, which can help you in all your relationships—whether with your boss, coworkers, spouse, friend, child, or parent. You’ll see a world of difference when you can truly attune to others.
