My JOY for today was attending High Tea with my friend’s Dad at Traceycakes in Langley. I hope we make this an annual event.

The ambiance was festive, the food tasty and the conversation engaging.

I think it’s important to have friends of various ages to help provide perspective on life. I’ve always enjoyed my time with Mr. Lowes.

Today’s JOY is a relaxing morning reading by the Christmas tree.

My favourite way to spend a morning is to read a few chapters while I sip my tea. It feels so indulgent. The light of the Christmas tree makes it feel magical.

Joy comes to us in big & small ways. Life is about recognizing the moments that bring us joy and invite more of that into our lives.

I hope you find a few moments of joy today.

Yesterday’s JOY was attending the annual Blessings Bag party.

Each year around 20 of us get together and create 24 bags filled with necessities and treats for people experiencing home insecurity. Examples of what’s in a bag include hand sanitizer, toothbrush and paste, tea bags, hot chocolate, granola bars, socks, a toque, etc..
We all leave with one or two bags and keep them in our car for when we come across someone in need. It’s a feel good event.

The last two years has also included the fun Saran Wrap game ball. We laughed so hard. As you can see in the third photo I’m practically crying I’m laughing so hard! I ended up winning the grand prize. A beautiful necklace with a heart pendant at the end. The box says if you lead with love you lead the right way. I, of course, teared up.

The event always sparks feelings of JOY for me. It fills my heart to be doing a good deed. The true meaning of Christmas. It’s nice be around friends, new and old, some I only see once a year at this event. The laughter and celebration was much needed and I cane home with my cup filled right up.

Thank you Annette!

My ‘JOY’ for today was brunch with my friend.

I’ve known this fabulous woman since we were 13. We don’t talk every day. We’ve gone years without seeing each other. We lead quite different lives. But never once have I ever doubted the strength of our friendship.

Our quick connection over fabulous food to celebrate her personal trip around the sun, was wonderful. Like all of the time we spend together.

The food was amazing! There was good glitter on my waffle. It felt so fancy. Tasted delicious! The service was great. Everything was super!

My heart is full of joy for our friendship, for celebrating my friend, for the delicious, happy food! A joyous start to a rather dull and drizzly day.

My Joy for yesterday was attending It’s a Wonderful Life as a musical at Theatre in the Country with my friend’s mom!!

Kicking off the festive season with live theatre is one of my favourite things. I had no idea it was going to be a musical but was pleasantly surprised at how well the songs were written.

This was a dinner theatre, right here in Langley. The food was good. The performance excellent. The sets were very well done.

This show is such an embodiment of the season. Angels, miracles, family, giving. It hits all the marks. I enjoyed it so much I even teared up, just like I do each year when I watch the film.

Live theatre is a joy in my life, introduced to me by my grandmother when I was probably around the age of 4. Each performance I watch brings me closer to her and fills my heart with joy & gratitude.

Today’s picture of Joy is multifaceted. This picture is of my friends’ dad’s memorial tree. It’s located in the park by my house where I often walk.

It brings me joy because each year this family all come together to create this fun, happy tree in this park. I admire the tradition of it. I can’t help but smile whenever I catch a glimpse of it during my walk.

Thinking of the people in this family, whom I have so much love for each, individually, and a bit of envy of their connection collectively, also makes my heart joyous.

Another piece of the joy is how beautiful it is today. Seven degrees, shining sun, no wind. As any good Greater Vancouverite knows - you don’t pass up an opportunity to get outside when it’s not raining in December! I walked two laps around the park with a smile on my face the entire time. I said hello to each person I passed. I soaked up the sun upon my face. When I got back to my car I felt lighter and refreshed. Ready to start decorating my home for the holidays.

I hope you find some joy and some sunshine today!

My last beauty post of the month. Treated myself to this festive, grown in Canada, poinsettia. It looks fabulous on my Christmas tablecloth, looking out on to a very frosty Sunday morning.

Happy US Thanksgiving to those who are celebrating today. It’s a good reminder to be grateful, generous, forgiving & kind, regardless of where you live or whatever you’re celebrating.

Today’s beauty post is in relation to a sound bath I attended last night. This is not a photo from the actual event, I didn’t have my phone with me. But this photo does represent the mood.

It was a deeply relaxing experience. The facilitator explained that our bodies can hear anything from 20 - 20,000 hertz. Because of the tonality of the various instruments and singing bowls he played, it confuses the pre-frontal cortex of the brain (the analytical part), causing it to shut down. This leaves one in a deep state of relaxation. The listener ends up in a theta or delta wave response.

I experienced sounds like waves crashing on shore, a rain storm, wind chimes, vibration that could be felt in the chest. I definitely hit the hypnotic, sleepy state of consciousness. Not for the entire thing but for some of it. I did have to push past some resistance of not understating the sounds I was hearing.

This was not my first sound bath and I would definitely attend again. I have seen offerings where a sound journey occurs while you’re floating in air mattresses in a pool. I’d love to try that!

Beauty occurs through all our senses - sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. How will you experience beauty today?

Today’s beauty post is of the whimsy of someone doing this in a forest near my friend’s house! So much fun trekking down the trail with a three year old trying to see how many sets of googley eyes we could find. We found 6.

The forest is beautiful on its own but this changed a normal experience to something extraordinary.

Thank you to whoever thought about doing this and then for actually going through with it! So fun!
